Lack of content

[edit]

I think this entry, whilst the content that is present is of sufficient quality, it does not provide a comprehensive account of Richard's career. I think this article could be significantly enhanced by further development and additional content. --Minotaur500 23:32, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"E"

[edit]

I think I may have read or heard somewhere that Richard had inserted the "E" into his professional name without it actually standing for anything on the basis that there was another "Richard Grant" around at the time, or registered with Equity, Or Something. Is there any mileage to this, or is it another urban legend? Chris cheese whine 02:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to an interview he did with the BBC, this is correct. Video here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11960534 82.17.246.92 (talk) 01:27, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Appearance on QI

[edit]

I don't want to add it myself because I'm not familiar with the rules for providing references, but Richard E. Grant appeared in Episode 11 of Series 1 of QI 65.50.25.85 (talk) 01:07, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Space

[edit]

The link to The Space goes to the wrong entry - it looks like Wikipedia doesn't have an entry currently for The Space Theater in Cape Town, South Africa. Creating a new entry seems worth doing since this article could then be correctly linked, and several other prominent South African actors and directors got their start at The Space. Infobox picture

[edit]

Isn't their any better image than the one we got now. You can barely see him, because of the reflection. --Imagine Wizard (talk contribs count) Iway amway Imagineway Izardway. 19:30, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since it is a BLP, you can take one and upload it. This is general consensus about WP:NFCC #1. More info at WP:MCQ. Did you notice that many actors have no image in their bio? This is better than nothing for this article. Don't ask me, I just work here (that's a joke, for those who didn't catch it). —Aladdin Sane (talk) 22:08, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cold Light of Day needs to be added to filmography

[edit]

I note the absence of The Cold Light of Day (1996) from Grant´s filmography. I´m going to try to add it, but may need help with technical aspects. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgiasouthernlynn (talkcontribs) 11:43, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Most notable role

[edit]

The sentence in the introductory line recalls Grant's most notable role as the Spice World movie; however, Withnail and I is a particularly large cult-esque movie and films along the lines of Gosford Park and many of his voice roles are probably larger, more notable roles, for example the cult caper hudson hawk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.112.65.184 (talk) 20:40, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

I think describing Richard as 'English' is a bit of a stretch. As the article elucidates, he is of African origin, a who moved to UK as an adult and is a dual British/Swazi national.

We don't call Bob Geldof an 'English' singer do we?, although his immigration circumstances are similar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.115.91.102 (talk) 00:55, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This SHOULD something like “English/Swazi actor” or “Swaziland born London based actor”. Michael Fassbender has lived in England since he was in his early 20s, and he still referred to as an Irish or Irish-German actor. VsanoJ (talk) 15:09, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If he holds a British passport, then he is British. But he is not English merely by virtue of his living in England.2001:FB1:40:7C54:D59C:D3A:D515:4C26 (talk) 04:33, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Richard E Grant's niche of style is his Englishness, which is how he is described/perceived by British sources instead of (in the American way) using British as a coverall.Halbared (talk) 21:54, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We don't call people "English" who are born outside Britain without some very good reason and a verifiable source. The support given above - that his "niche of style is his Englishness" is irrelevant. That's his acting ability at the very least. In any case he should be described as British because that is his citizenship. I support the proposal above for Swazi-born British actor - or Swazi-born London-based actor.Riftbase (talk) 19:50, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Richard E Grant refers to himself as English, as do sources like the BBC and others. Grant's citizenship is covered in the infobox, he himself says he is English. "Somewhere back in Richard E's paternal ancestry, there were men who were Dutch or Hungarian and certainly Afrikaner. Yet he feels his father was an Englishman, working for the British government, and he, himself, is a Swazi who happens also to be English." https://www.theguardian.com/film/2005/aug/06/edinburghfilmfestival2005.edinburghfilmfestivalHalbared (talk) 08:53, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Killing Dad

[edit]

I remember seeing him in an OK-ish film with Denholm Elliot called Killing Dad. It's not included in his filmography. Hanoi Road (talk) 14:29, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ugly photograph

[edit]

Does anyone feel that the 2014 image [[File:Richard E Grant 2014.jpg]] is useful and worth including when there are so many other, better, images already in the article? I did remove it but someone took exception and reverted. Deb (talk) 09:31, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
