Relationship to Director Richard Maxwell

[edit]

I don't know how to include that in this article, but according to many sources in including www.nytimes.com/2008/10/12/theater/12simo.html Jan Maxwell is the younger brother of actress Jan Maxwell — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.151.130.55 (talk) 03:48, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed edits

[edit]

Hello, I am one of the staff members of New York City Players, and I would like to propose the following edits to this article. Thank you! - Eric at NYC Players (talk) 17:16, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Revise the second sentence of paragraph 1 to read: He is the Artistic Director of New York City Players.[1]
  • Add citations to paragraph two: Richard Maxwell is originally from West Fargo, North Dakota.[2] He studied acting at Illinois State University[3] and began his professional career with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.[4]
  • Add: Maxwell has received the Spalding Gray Award in 2014,[5] the Doris Duke Performing Artist Award in 2012,[6] a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2010,[7] a Creation Fund Award from National Performance Network in 2010,[8] the ZKB Patronage Prize in 2005,[9] and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists award in 2000.[10] In 2012, Maxwell was an invited artist in the Whitney Biennial.[11]
  • Add: Richard Maxwell is represented by Greene Naftali Gallery, New York.[12]

  Edit request partially implemented

  1. Green tickY The claim regarding artistic director was added, albeit with a different citation, as the one provided was a dead URL.
  2. Green tickY The New Yorker reference was added.
  3. Red XN The references for the claim regarding the subject "studying acting at Illinois State University" were not added, as the claim was omitted. It is generally the case that undergraduate work is omitted while only post-graduate degrees are mentionable.
  4. Red XN The claims regarding the Spalding Gray award, the Creation Fund Award and the ZKB Patronage Prize were not added, because they are not independently notable in Wikipedia. For an award to be independently notable, a Wikipedia article should already exist on the subject.[a]
  5. Green tickY The claims regarding the Doris Duke PA Award, the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Foundation for CA Grant to artists award were added to the article for the same reason stated in number 4 above.
  6. Green tickY The claim regarding the Whitney was added.
  7. Red XN The claim regarding Greene Naftali Gallery was omitted per WP:NOTADIRECTORY item #7.

plus Additional changes made to the article:

  1. Material which was unreferenced or non-notable was omitted. This includes:
    1. A claim regarding an OBIE award for acting, whose reference URL was inactive
    2. A claim regarding a Best in Festival Award from Theaterspektakel Zurich
  2. The subject's publications were given ISBN and OCLC numbers.
  3. The BLP sources maintenance template dated April 2010 was removed.
