Fair use rationale for Image:AlcanLogo.png

Image:AlcanLogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:05, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Lawson Mardon Group

Clicking on 'Lawson Mardon Group' elsewhere in Wikipedia directs you to this page, with the advice "(Redirected from Lawson Mardon Group)" interpolated at the top - but the page itself gives no guidance as to why the one entity should resolve to the other. Aside from this particular case, perhaps Wikipedia needs a template to mark where this sort of substitution deserves expansion. 206.248.138.250 (talk) 14:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Largest aluminum company?

This article says that this company is the largest aluminum company in the world but that article on United Company RUSAL also says that that is the largest aluminum company in the world. Both can not be true. Someone with knowledge of the aluminum industry should fix this. Qwertyzap (talk) 04:40, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Yes, RUSAL has an asset of 8.5billion against RioTinoAlcan 2.6billon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.254.64.3 (talk) 18:10, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

(re-posted from Talk:Alcan):

Oppose: company had a nearly 100-year history prior to its acquisition. If it is independently notable as such, it should maintain its own page. For an indication of precedent, numerous railroads (indeed most historic railroads) and other large notable companies that later merged into conglomerates or larger companies still have separate articles dedicated to them as independent companies, if they are sufficiently notable to stand on their own. Current status is irrelevant if the historical status is sufficient, and given the evidence produced here and in other readings, it seems it would warrant such independence.Morgan Riley (talk) 17:21, 15 March 2013 (UTC) Morgan Riley (talk) 13:27, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that. Checked the wrong Talk page. I've undone all my edits related to the merge. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:27, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Suggested merge with Rio Tinto Group

Since the company is no longer called "Rio Tinto Alcan" but instead just "Rio Tinto", wouldn't it be preferable to merge the article with Rio Tinto Group? Their name change sure is confusing. If not, maybe the article should be named something like "Aluminium division of Rio Tinto". – Þjarkur (talk) 13:43, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
