Feiling citation unused[edit]

The citation for Feiling (1970) is currently unused. Options would be to remove it or move it to a Further reading section. I would suggest remove it as there is currently no Further reading section here and Feiling already appears in the main NS article. --Mirokado (talk) 15:07, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem with that. I think I moved the biblio over wholesale when I was forced to split the NC article.--Wehwalt (talk) 15:24, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --Mirokado (talk) 15:57, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Lusitania link[edit]

Does a link to [1] belong here? (It is in a 'very legible' hand - unlike some other politicians.) Jackiespeel (talk) 10:10, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Add it as an EL if you think it significant enough. Although I wonder why they would have informed the Lord Mayor of Birmingham of such a thing. Birmingham not being on the sea, especially.--Wehwalt (talk) 10:15, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly because Joe Chamberlain was connected with Birmingham? The handwriting comment is based on 'actual visual observation'. JS 21:18, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

I meant Nev was LM of Birmingham when this happened. In 1915.--Wehwalt (talk) 21:33, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Countryman[edit]

I doubt this refers to the Western Mail (Western Australia), but that's where the link leads. Perhaps it should be Countryman (magazine)? Colonies Chris (talk) 09:17, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lloyd George Diary[edit]

" Lloyd George wrote in his diary that "Neville Chamberlain has resigned and thank God for that." "

Lloyd George didn't keep a diary. The obvious primary sources for his private ventings are Maurice Hankey's wickedly indiscreet diary of War Cabinet meetings, his letters to his mistress Frances Stevenson ("My Darling Pussy") and her diary, his letters to his wife (often written in Welsh), or his crony George Riddell (owner of the "News of the World"). I don't have the Macklin book to which this is cited so whether he's got it wrong or has been misquoted in error I couldn't say.Paulturtle (talk) 23:33, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've tracked this down - it was a letter to his family (in Welsh), according to the 2006 Self biog, cited to K.O.Morgan's edition of his family letters.Paulturtle (talk) 23:40, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

This is a great article but I really don't see why we need it, when it's contents could be merged into the main Neville Chamberlain page. WisDom-UK (talk) 01:15, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Back in the day, about 10 years ago, it was felt the detail would make the main Chamberlain article too long.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:24, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's mad. You could have The Rise of Insert Name of Any Successful Person. And then where would we be? Ericoides (talk) 21:50, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly opposed to merge The Neville Chamberlain article was too long, so a split was definitely necessary, and the split that took place was fairly logical. Surely the early life and career of Neville Chamberlain is a legitimate topic. Wikipedia has hundreds of articles on other politicians dealing with similar scope. Just to give a few examples, we have Early life and career of Abraham Lincoln, Early life of Joseph Stalin, and Military career of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The only thing even possibly objectionable that I can see about this article is that it's the only one using the phrase "rise of". Ericoides, are you just objecting to the title? Because if so, we can just find another title. Personally, I think "Rise of Neville Chamberlain" is fine, but if you disagree, would you be okay with something like "Early life and career of Neville Chamberlain"?Ahiroy (talk) 13:25, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was objecting to the concept of somewhat parallel pages, not the title. I'm sorry to say that I was unaware of the "hundreds of articles on other politicians dealing with similar scope". If that is indeed the case I'll withdraw my objection, as we would then already seem to be at the very place I wondered about. Ericoides (talk) 16:36, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. It's giving the article room to breathe and grow. Been doing a splurge of reading on the WW1 manpower crisis lately and there's probably a bit more to be said on that (that section is largely written by me) in the fulness of time. Others may wish to write up his time in office in the 1920s and 1930s, or his formative time growing sisal on Andros.Paulturtle (talk) 04:35, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox name[edit]

Added name parameter, was defaulting to article title. 71.175.88.163 (talk) 21:24, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Change name?[edit]

This article is within Category:Early lives by heads of government. Every other article there (and in the subcategory for US presidents) is titled "Early life of [name]". Perhaps this article should be moved to "Early life of Neville Chamberlain" so as to be in line with the rest. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 21:24, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cf. articles in Category:Early lives of the prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Category:Early lives of the presidents of the United States. Precedent exists for creative (if descriptive) titles. JJLiu112 (talk) 06:49, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
