Birth_name in infobox[edit]

Wallyfromdilbert Please review the full infobox paramters, not just the summary at the top. Template:Infobox_person#Parameters When challenged on the birth name's authenticity, I have attempted to lead you to the source to satisfy verifiability policies (it is a public record), but am not comfortable linking to the citation in the article due to way too much personal info. Rob Johnson is the common name he commonly goes by, but the official, full name is Robert M. Johnson. Is that in question as a fact or do you disagree with his full name being included in the article?

name Common name of person (defaults to article name if left blank; provide |birth_name= (below) if different from |name=). If middle initials are specified (or implied) by the lead of the article, and are not specified separately in the |birth_name= parameter, include them here.

birth_name Name at birth; only use if different from |name=.

The appropriate place for the full name would be at the beginning of the lead. The birth name in the infobox is unnecessary unless it differs from the current name (i.e. because of a name change). The name is already in the infobox, right above the picture. Adding the birth name implies he has changed his name.Wallyfromdilbert (talk) 21:41, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think you mis-interpret the sentence "If middle initials are specified (or implied) by the lead of the article, and are not specified separately in the |birth_name= parameter, include them here." But if you're OK with inserting the middle initial in the lead of the article or the name= parameter of the infobox, I'm fine with that outcome. I'm against deleting the middle initial entirely from the only appearance in the article and suggesting it's because the infobox was filled incorrectly. Both Robert and M should be included facts. I don't believe that his middle initial is relevant, especially since I can find no sources that use it on a Google search. If it goes in at all, it should go in the lead and not the birth name part of the infobox, especially since it is not even his full middle name (which seems even less relevant for a local politician). I'm not going to object to its inclusion in the lead, but I would be more comfortable basing it on a reliable source that shows it is notable. I'm not sure many people will have a "notable" middle initial, ever.... even people who are far more notable. I don't quite think that should be the standard for a birthname though. If you search for Rob Johnson on wikipedia you'll see several of them, even an Australian politician one. Having a middle initial gives more specificity, which is why I'd wanted to include it. In a year or two, this entry might be named Rob Johnson (NHL Seattle Executive). Jwfowble (talk) 01:45, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel very strongly about the middle initial, then add it. My preference is for a reliable source to also have it, but I said I would not object if you added it to the lead. Wallyfromdilbert (talk) 01:49, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
