Untitled[edit]

Note: Regarding Waddell's early races, the link to the FISA profile is slightly different than the RowingOne profile, which again differs from the Short Biography. I updated to match the RowingOne profile.--Swlenz 23:28, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article stated that Rob had the worlds fastest indoor rowing 2K time . But his 5:38.3 is second to Matthias Siejkowski's 5:37.0 . I have updated the article and added a reference 212.17.50.66 (talk) 16:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC) jglynn[reply]

"Waddell has one of the highest VO2 max intake levels of any athlete ever tested." Well, what is it? --Hugh7 (talk) 22:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

VO2 Max[edit]

I've seen this claim elsewhere, but never any actual confirmation let alone an actual figure! Most news media mention this claim in reports about Waddell, but it's usually word-for-word taken from this wiki article. Unless there's a link confirming this claim, I don't think it should be on this page.

I have removed the sentence about VO2 max as it is not relevant without some supporting evidence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.106.21.24 (talk) 22:35, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(I'm not saying he doesn't have a high VO2 max, and I can well believe he has one of the highest recorded, but with no concrete proof it shouldn't be mentioned) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.3.4.239 (talk) 02:15, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree if VO2 is going to be stated as "one of the highest measured" there should be more information. Taking the given 2k time of 5:36, plus his bio says he's 97 kg, and plugging it into the C2 VO2 max calculator it comes up with 75.10. A world class number but not near the 90's the XC skiiers hit. That page states that it's accurate to 1.5%, but this is for someone at the limits. The 2k may not have fully taxed his VO2 system. He did the 5k amazing fast under 15:00. The 1:30 pace is close to the 1:24 pace for the 2k and was 2.5 times the distance. His system can provide a lot of O2. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.245.225.131 (talk) 21:09, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lacks Objectivity[edit]

The statement, "Waddell is widely considered the best rower in the world because of his incredible strength and strong heart" is an opinion and not a fact. It isn't supported by any evidence. I don't doubt that he's a great athelete or that he's widely admired. But it isn't an objective statement. I believe that it should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.190.251.71 (talk) 15:03, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The intro is too much like a sports magazine article rather than a valid factual paragraph. eg Is Rob a better rower than Steve Redgrave who won gold at four consecutive Olympic games and suffered from diabetes in his final Olympic campaign?? I am sure Rob is an outstanding athlete but the intro para to the article needs to be more factual. Boatman (talk) 18:42, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
