No Doctoral Students? I don't think so[edit]

After the cuts at Zenith Electronics Robert Adler spent his last few months there trying hard, I was told, to find jobs and placements for those that he had to let go, then he retired.

He then did some consulting/associate research at the University of Illinois in Urban Champaign where I was a masters student. As he had led some important work on Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices, used as IF filters in TV receivers, he was brought in by my advisor, Bill Hunsinger, to work with us. He came down by train about once a week and spent many hours working with Dr. Hunsinger and his students. I would often pick him up and drop him off at the train station, and once had him over for dinner in my dingy basement apartment. He looked around and my poor apartment and recalled his college days when a student rode his bike in cycles on a big round dining table.

While he was an advisor, he wasn't the tenured professor who was named on our dissertations, I think his name appears in the list of acknowledgments of many theses around 1978 to 1982 or so. He was a lovely, gentile man for whom I have very fond memories.

I am sure that Drs. Supriyo Datta, Carl Panosik, Don Malocha, Mike Hoskins, Bob Miller, David Janes, Anthony Lentine and others will give some credit to his mentorship. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wilkus (talk • contribs) 20:25, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
