There is an opinion (see e.g. the citations in http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wimarc-1 and http://www.geni.com/people/Guimara-Wymarche/6000000008630655726) that Robert fitz Wimarc's mother, called Wimarc (Guimara), born in 986, was an illegitimate daughter of Duke Richard I of Normandy; judging by her name, her mother is assumed to have been a Breton concubine. This relationship, or something similar, would explain why Robert is named after his mother and is described as kin to both Edward the Confessor and William the Conqueror.
