Political views?

[edit]

"Osborne keeps his views on politics uncomfortably secret from the public." What? "Uncomfortably secret"? Surely this is someone editorializing. He's a TV host on a movie channel, for heaven's sake. Psho (talk) 23:19, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Private Screenings - tables turned!

[edit]

As I type, I am watching tonight's episode of Private Screenings in which Alec Baldwin is interviewing Robert Osborne instead of the other way around. It's interesting to hear him discuss his road to Turner Classic Movies. He has numerous and wonderful anecdotes about the people he's met and his film adventures. It's being rebroadcast tonight at 11:30P. If you can catch it, there's good information to incorporate into this article. This is the episode's webpage at TCM: http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/939256%7C0/Private-Screenings-Robert-Osborne-1-6.html Thank you for your time, Wordreader (talk) 02:08, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing Comment

[edit]

In the fall of 2012, Osborne further reduced his schedule by sharing some of his TCM hosting duties with fellow journalist and film historian Ben Mankiewicz. As of this writing, in April, 2013, a new program was introduced on TCM. It's called "Friday Night Spotlight" where every Friday night for each month, a different celebrity or expert host will take viewers through a collection of films focusing on a specific topic. Here is the revised TCM primetime hosting schedule: Osborne hosts Turner Classic Movies on Mondays through Wednesdays; Mankiewicz hosts on Thursday nights; For the "Friday Night Spotlight", a different celebrity hosts each month; on Saturday nights, Osborne hosts "The Essentials" with actress Drew Barrymore then he takes over by himself for the rest of the evening; on Sundays, Osborne hosts the first two movies of the evening beginning at 8:00 P.M., then Mankiewicz takes over as host for the "Silent Sundays" and the "TCM Imports".Badly phrased. Information box change - spouse

[edit]

I see where the "spouse" line was deleted from the "Information box" since my posting here of 7 January. Was the information in error or uncited? Thank you, 24.47.173.120 (talk) 06:56, 15 January 2014 (UTC) [Sorry - my log-in had timed out. Wordreader (talk) 06:58, 15 January 2014 (UTC)][reply]

Current health issue?

[edit]

The charming Mr Orborne is on a long hiatus from TCM. Madelaine Stow has been filling in for him frequently and a new Saturday host has been announced. This undated item purports to show a letter from him citing "a health issue" as the reason for missing 2016 TCM Classic Film Festival: http://moviesharkdeblore.com/site/festivals/robert-osborne-bows-out-of-2016-tcm-classic-film-festival-for-health-reasons/ Perhaps a more reliable source? http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/robert-osborne-miss-tcm-classic-882245

ALSO - Mr Osborne received the inaugural William Cameron Menzies Award, 31 January 2016. I believe I read elsewhere that Eva Marie Saint accepted it on his behalf: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/art-directors-honor-robert-osborne-824233

Is more information available? I have been able to locate any. Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 03:15, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I also couldn't find anything more detailled. There is perhaps gossip and rumor, but no reliable information about his health. Mr. Osborne seems to be private about his personal life in general. --Clibenfoart (talk) 21:37, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just my itty bitty 2 cents.. i had noticed in the last yr or so of his hosting TCM.. he would falter, his voice would catch, spasm? just a bit when speaking. God bless(ed) him and us... 2602:304:CDAF:A3D0:E982:7332:482B:41FC (talk) 16:31, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When was his last appearance on TCM?

[edit]

I can't find any source of reliable information for when he actually left his hosting duties for the final time. 38.67.192.226 (talk) 19:48, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Partner

[edit]

I see his obituaries at The Hollywood Reporter ( http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/robert-osborne-dead-turner-classic-movies-host-was-84-727070 ) and LA Times ( http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-me-robert-osborne-dies-20170306-story.html ) both mention his longtime (20 years) partner, David Staller. Shouldn't this be part of his page? Mr. Staller was the one who announced his death. --Txvoodoo (talk) 23:25, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree. As far as I know, the existence of this longtime relationship had not been reported in a reliable source until Osborne's death; Osborne had always been very private about his personal life when it came to media coverage. Per The Advocate, "[Staller] and Osborne apparently never discussed their relationship with the press, but they often attended theatrical events together." [1] Now that there are reliable sources about Staller, he should be added to the article. --Arxiloxos (talk) 02:49, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
