Possible stats[edit]

I was looking on John Litster's 'A Record of pre-war Scottish League Players' files to try and complete the career stats for Stevenson. In addition to the entry with the Third Lanark > Arsenal > TIW path, there is a separate entry for a Robert Stevenson which probably relates to him:

  • 1900/01 Arthurlie Played in Scottish Combination
  • 1901/02 Arthurlie RH SLD2 15m 1g
  • 1902/03 Arthurlie SLD2

....needless to say there are no personal details to confirm it further, and obviously there is a gap between leaving London, apparently in 1897, and being logged with Arthurlie in 1900. But seems likely to be him.

There is another, earlier, entry which may relate to the same player, pre Third Lanark:

  • 1888/90 Arthurlie selected at CH for Renfrewshire against Edinburgh 23/11/1889
  • 1889/90 Middlesbrough (signed in December 1889)
  • 1891/92 South Bank (signed from Middlesbrough in May 1891)

Again no further clues, I don't know anything about South Bank, could this be a London team? It doesn't clash with the Third Lanark spell as apparently he only signed for them in January 1893. And if he was working in shipbuilding or similar, going between Clydeside, Teesside and East End of London makes sense to me. But you'd have thought over all these years that someone from Middlesbrough would have spotted that the London-based player used to play for them, or that s connection might have been spotted in the past when he was being researched for West Ham history books? So might all be a coincidence. Anyway, if anyone reading could let me know their opinion as to whether the 'before' and/or the 'after' spell should be added to the article, or if they have further info that could help to confirm or disprove the connections, please let me know.
