The Texan Tavern

[edit]

Someone made a stubby The Texan Tavern article a few months ago. Can someone who knows the subject better decide what's best to do with that article - merge, expand, or delete? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 02:46, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If the restaurant is still operating, or is otherwise notable and well known in the Griffith area, the stub article is ok I guess. If not, then a merge into this article would be more suitable. -- Longhair 03:23, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trimbole name

[edit]

There are many official documents, for example, [1] [2] which demonstrate that Robert Trimbole and his family used the spelling Trimbole. 203.220.10.226 (talk) 06:46, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have issue regarding the incorrect spelling of the surname Trimboli. The family of Robert Trimboli were from Plati Reggio Calabria, where the surname Trimboli is common. In Italy there is no such name as Trimbole. Sloppy media reports should not determine what is considered factual. This is highly offensive to people of Southern Italian heritage. TrimboliGirl (talk) 04:33, 11 February 2009 (UTC))[reply]

I believe there is a major inaccuracy here with your article. The Trimboli surname has been mispelt by the media and for that reason should be changed. "Trimbole", is INCORRECT. For further reference on the Trimboli surname, please visit, www.trimboli.com Correct spelling should be TRIMBOLI —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingpin27 (talkcontribs) 05:11, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TrimboliGirl/Kingpn27, I think that you've misunderstood the purpose of Wikipedia. We only report what Reliable Sources have already published and we specifically do not engage in Original Research or original reporting. Please understand that one of Wikipedia's cornerstone policies is Verifiability which requires all information be able to be sourced to reliable and verifiable sources. What you appear to be advocating - rejecting published sources, documents, newspaper articles, legal documents etc in favour of your personal beliefs and claims - amounts to Original Research and it is not allowed on Wikipedia. You say: "In Italy there is no such name as Trimbole". I'm sorry, but this is irrelevant and whether or not the name is used in Italy does not affect whether or not Trimbole used it in Australia.
You write: "The Trimboli surname has been misspelled by the media and for that reason should be changed." If the media, police, family and the judicial system have systematically spelled Trimbole's name incorrectly, the place to rectify that is most definitely not on Wikipedia. As I said before, we only report what reliable sources have already published, and as the Verifiability policy says in its opening sentence, "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth".
Now I personally can see some merit in considering the possibility of noting Trimboli as an alternate spelling, but you're simply not going to get a consensus here to change Trimbole to Trimboli because the vast majority of reliable sources spell the name "Trimbole". Google News, gives one single hit for "Robert Trimboli" [3] and that is a reader's comment on a Courier Mail article. Whereas, "Robert Trimbole" gets 62 Google News hits,[4] and Google and other search engines get similar results ratio with vastly more hits for Trimbole. See also Google Books - Trimbole and Trimboli.
Please also note the legal documents linked to by the editor in the opening post in this section because they show Trimbole and his family did, in fact, spell their name in this way. I looked at the website you link to, [www.trimboli.com www.trimboli.com], but I'm afraid it does not establish anything or help in anyway at all that I can see. If there is something in particular on that site that you think is helpful for editors of this article, then please explain what exactly you are referring to on that site because it appears to simply be a personal website of an American fellow whose last name is Trimboli. It's certainly not a reliable source by any stretch of the imagination. Sarah 13:13, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Was this man (or his parents) literate?

Trimbole is, by definition, feminine plural in Italian, however, in English it's pronunciation is not distinguishable from Trimboli (masculine plural). This might be the real issue here and to claim that the spelling trimbole is correct might imply racism, seismic, just plain arrogance and ignorance on the part of journalists. We need another source for the death dates, or an archive, if one exists (and it would appear that Ann Marie Presland is in fact still alive.) One assumes that the date of her death was an error duplicating Joan Quested's.120.147.42.76 (talk) 09:01, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
