Name[edit]

His name was Robert Graham Wade, but some disagree: "Incidentally, Bob's middle name was Grant, not Graham. I know it is given as Graham in some sources but he told me it was Grant." (IM David Levy). It was changed to "Grant" in the article, but I reverted it. I feel we should go with the best/majority reliable sources, and IMHO David Levy does not trump the multiple other sources. I've got no dogmatic feeling one way or the other, I just think we need more sources than just Levy before we change it. Peter Ballard (talk) 23:19, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A difficult one to resolve. Hard to imagine why Levy would invent "Grant", but then I'm wondering if the two would sound similar when muttered in a noisy room - so maybe a misunderstanding? For the record, Golombek, Sunnucks, Kazic and Brace all cautiously avoid giving more than a "G.", whereas Whyld and Gaige are sold on Graham. Brittle heaven (talk) 01:28, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His name when he was referred to in news, accounts of tournament and match play, etc., in magazine articles was always "Bob", never "Robert". Book authorship is almost always under the full form of the author(s)' name(s); this separate convention being in use, the usage does not come under consideration for WP:COMMONNAME.Harfarhs (talk) 00:45, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, not an exaggeration - I did say "almost always", and it is most uncommon for an author's book jacket credit to change during their publishing career, for obvious reasons. Harfarhs (talk) 11:27, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
