Parliamentary voting record

[edit]

Voting is arguably the most important thing that an MP does. There should be extremely good grounds for not including it. Ideas for improvement are welcome. 92.10.136.188 (talk) 21:23, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Right now it's a cherrypicked list drawn from the much longer list at TWFY. From the pertinent section of WP:CHERRY, sentence 1: "Often the main tool of a coatrack article is fact picking." That's what's happening here; a small subset from TWFY's much longer list, with no clarity as to why the subset was chosen. Better to provide an EL to voting records as ELs - which I see the article already has in the form of *Voting record at Public Whip and *Record in Parliament at TheyWorkForYou - such that the user can read the unabridged list and find out how many instances of vote go to make up any one of the TWFY prognostications. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:12, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tagishsimon I think you're taking a black and white position on the parliamentary voting record. That is, include all or none. It's not possible to include every vote, nor is that desirable. We don't include every fact from a reliable source. And we don't delete an entire article body and replace it with external links simply because the external source is more comprehensive. A good article in my opinion should broadly capture the MP's positions and link to more comprehensive information. Deleting the entire voting section does not improve the article. I have attempted to give a broad spectrum of Roger Gale's voting record, especially where it appears to be very consistent. If my selection is not NPOV enough, please amend as you see fit. WP:CHERRY is an essay and not policy. Thumbs down for full deletion. 92.10.136.188 (talk) 22:52, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
