Dodd's 'Beast' needs own article

John Dodd's "Beast" needs its own article. There are a good number of photos of the car and information on it scattered around the internet, i.e.

Other comments

At least up to the mid 1970's the wind tunnel at the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment used Merlin engines to drive the fans. It was an interesting experience to walk past the dozens of engines which they had in reserve. Chrisj1948 (talk) 08:30, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

More Merlin-powered Cars

I've recently come across references to two Merlin-powered Rolls-Royces; a Phantom II and a Phantom III (the latter apparently owned by Jay Leno). My understanding of the history of the former is that the project was started by Stephen Langton and, after Langton's death, sold on to Nick Harley (the chap who paid five million GBP for the Kellner Bugatti Royale) around 1988. Whether it was completed under Harley's auspices is unclear from the information on teh Intarwebs, but it ended up in the USA and was sold in 2007 for over 400,000 USD. I've not found anything else about the PIII so far, but will have a root around and see if anything turns up. Mr Larrington (talk) 15:12, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

A bit of further digging has found TWO merlin-engined Phantom IIs (I surmise the reference to the PIII above to be in error). One started life as a 1931 and is the Langton / Harley car referred to above; it was indeed completed by Harley. Jay Leno's car started life as a 1934 and is, or at least was, different in appearance. That photo dates from 2000 and it's apparently been rebodied since; the engine has been undergoing a rebuild in 2010. If I get the time between Christmas & New Year I'll try to put something together about these two vehicles. Mr Larrington (talk) 14:52, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I've just come across some photos of the PII-based Handlye Special. I've no idea where, if anywhere, it fits in with any of the above. Plus a beast called the Rothay Special, as of 2013 under construction in South Africa by a bloke known only as "Rusty" - this was on the SA Popular Mechanics' web site.
