Copyedit July 2011

Hi

During the copyedit a few things came to light that may need attention:

Critical reception
  • "Ed Morales disagreed with Lechner's review ..." - Did he disagree with the review, or just the rating? If it was the review, perhaps a quote or two would be appropriate.
Credits
  • I am not sure that such a comprehensive list is necessary - it just seems a little large.

Hello there! Thanks for cleaning up the article. To address your issues:

  • Unfortunately, I could not find the originally review by Lechner (I looked up the Record Racks as stated in the article). I only came across Morales response and he doesn't even address why he disagrees with Lechner. He only compares Luis Miguel to young Sinatra and says that Lechner should listen to Romances again in the dark "with his significant other". So I don't know how to address.
  • As for the credits, I'll bring this up on WikiProject and see what they say.

In regards, DJ Magician Man (talk) 16:19, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

To be honest the reply by Morales, and the fact that it says "ED MORALES San Gabriel", seems more like a comment rather than an article by an LA Times journalist. Chaosdruid (talk) 18:22, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
So how would I address this? Or should it be removed? DJ Magician Man (talk) 18:51, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
I am unsure,I have been trying to find an article on the wayback machine, as well as through various Google searches, but I cannot. As that page seems to be the only one in the LA Times that Morales is included on, whereas Lechner has quite a few, it would seem prudent to either hide it or delete it. I will keep looking :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 19:40, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
OK we have these, a Morales written article and bio, which show that he does indeed appear to be a reporter, though freelance.
On that note I am giving up, as I have spent about an hour on this now. I suggest leaving it in for now.
You could even try the whole quote, or as a note, "Lechner needs to go into his music room, turn down the lights, snuggle up with his significant other and really listen to "Romances." I give his review * and "Romances" ****" Chaosdruid (talk) 20:06, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I really appreciate the time you took to help as I couldn't find it on Google either. I will use that suggestion on the article! Again, thank you very much! =D DJ Magician Man (talk) 20:13, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Assessment for FA

Hi! I am not an expert when it comes to featured articles, but I will do whatever I can to get it to that level. Here are some suggestions:

  • The last sentence of the third paragraph of the Background section needs a source for the composers of "Por Debajo de la Mesa" and "Contigo (Estar Contigo)"
  • I feel that the last paragraph of the Background section could actually be added to the Recording and production section because it talks about the album's content as opposed to the events that led up to the album
  • "Recording for the album began on March 18, 1997,[15] at Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood and The Hit Factory in New York City." This might just be me, but it sounds a little strange to say that the recording started at both places on the same day, because it seems like he is recording in two places at once. It might be better to make these two separate sentences, but it is not a big problem. Also, the comma is not needed after 1997.
  • "In the recording of Romances..." "During the recording" might be a better word choice.
  • "...known as the "Silvetti Sound"; which Leila Cobo of Billboard describes as..." The semi-colon should be a comma.
  • "The success of Romance had encouraged Silvetti to produce Latin ballads for artists such as Marco Antonio Solís, Ricardo Montaner, and Rocío Dúrcal." This sentence seems a bit out of place. How does this relate to the production of the album, and did it change Silvetti's style?
  • "Silvetti has stated that when he produces an album he does not simply copy his arrangements" Whose arrangements doesn't who copy? Is he talking about himself or Miguel?
  • "About the selection of songs for the album, Manzanero stated that 'I give him the songs, and he chooses what he wants to record.'" Is Manzanero talking about Silvetti or Miguel?
  • "In the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart, it was even more successful..." Change to "Romances was even more successful in the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart..."
  • I think that the article could benefit from a photo of Miguel somewhere, perhaps the recording section.
  • In the citations, online sources such as Allmusic should not be italicized.

Overall I think this is a great article that certainly has a chance at FA. Nice work! I will continue to look for ways the article can be improved. Cheers, Basilisk4u (talk) 16:45, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the FAR, I believe I have addressed the problems brought up on your FAR. I'll probably nominated this for FAC late April. Thank you again and wish me luck! Erick (talk) 20:25, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
