Social Work & philosophy[edit]

I just now heard him on the radio. He's also a semi-regular guest interview on "The Visionary Activist," Caroline Casey (on Thursdays, 2 pm, KFCF (and I presume KPFA Pacifica archives?)). It seems he's taken his education from "the wall" to help incarcerated children, who greatly respect his mentorship.

[Kauk And Sacred Rok - National Parks Traveler]
"Jul 6, 2016 - Helping Kids Experience The Healing Ceremony Of Nature - Ron Kauk ... Through the wonders of Yosemite National Park, Ron Kauk and his ... “The first time I went to Yosemite, it was like Heaven” - An incarcerated teenager reflects on the impact of the trips to Yosemite National Park led by rock climber Ron Kauk." "What most don’t know is that seven years ago, Ron started a nonprofit organization called Sacred Rok to share the beauty and healing of nature with young people who had lost touch with the natural world. He has since led dozens of trips to Yosemite."

...young people who had lost touch with the natural world.??? It's long been my opinion that the ongoing demise of the Boy and Girl Scouts and camping etc, is largely responsible for much of the new crap in the news. Nature was once the Great American Teacher.

It seems he's also co-author of "Spirit of the Rock," Hardcover Apr 08, 2003. "Now, thirty years into his climbing adventure, Kauk's commitment is to be of service to the natural world through raising awareness in the community, protecting the earth, and helping new generations recognize the values of respect and responsibility to our source of life."

From the Back Cover: "What a teacher the school of granite has been. The opportunity to write ourselves into these boulders and big walls has created stories that can help us understand who we are." --Ron Kauk https://www.amazon.com/Spirit-Rock-Ron-Kauk/dp/1586851500

Shouldn't some of that be mentioned here? Cheers!
