New technology section

[edit]

I have added this, because the existing text only covers the creation of a light rope. Many of these may be brought together to create a cable, and that can be an iterative process.

I have made my own ropes, as a model-making exercise, within a wider interest as a member of the Intenational Guild of Knot Tyers, where knowledge of the internal construction of a rope or cable is essential as a step towards working with the same. Different Nations have different definitions of the two terms, rope and cable, which are not synonymous, although in general "rope" is the lighter grade and "cable" the heavier. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.250.132.218 (talk) 22:19, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

when was "the standard length for a British Naval Rope (was) 1000 ft (305 m)."?

the source for that information was printed very recently so that the publication date does not help.Longpinkytoes (talk) 15:35, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
