Contesting prod

[edit]

I am contesting {{prod}}. This is a bona fide small sect of Hasidic Judaism, and is surely notable. Google may not show much, but that's no surprize when you're dealing with a group of people who generally do not use the internet. I think somebody cut and pasted some big blurb from a website here after prod was applied. I will solicit my fellow members of WP:JEW to get together and improve this guy, so please hold off on AfD until we get a chance to. I slapped an {{inuse}} on it. Thanks. - the.crazy.russian τ ç ë 04:41, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It has been six days! {{inuse}} means no one should touch the article, because someone is making edits and doesn't want to cross over. An article cannot be kept off limits to other editors until you happen to get around to it.

At the moment this looks like a plagiarism of [1]. If it's a valid topic, fine, but I suggest that we delete it as a copyvio and then start over. - Jmabel | Talk 04:28, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Been hectic. Thanks for following up. - the.crazy.russian τ ç ë 12:35, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It seems we have enough material here to rework this article into a biography of Rabbi Naftali of Ropshitz. The dynasty can come later. Yoninah 22:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Somthing on "Veltz nussach" aka "Nussach ropshitz" in davening should be in the article..gevaldik! 06:54, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To a non-Jew, this article is almost incomprehensible due to such a large number of Jew-specific terms that one cannot devine their meaning through inference and context. Could someone with expertise in Judaica please go through this article and provide context and explanation for some of these terms? --Cjs56 15:12, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I note that Grand Rabbi Chaim Meir Yechiel Rubin styles himself as the Ropshitzer Rebbe. What is his claim to this title? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrmessy1 (talkcontribs) 30 November 2008

He is a descendant in direct male line of Rabbi Asher Yeshaya Rubin of Ropshitz, son-in-law and successor of Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Horowitz of Ropshitz. (R. Chaim Meir Yechiel Moshe, son of R. Menachem Mendel of Muzhai, son of R. Yaakov Yisrael VeYeshurun of Sulitz, son R. Baruch of Brizdovitz, son of R. Meir of Glogov, son of R. Mendel of ?, son of R. Asher Yeshaya of Ropshitz. Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 16:32, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well that is something but there are many of us direct male line descendants about. --Mrmessy1 (talk) 10:33, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge from Sasregen

[edit]

I took the liberty of merging after only a two-day silence, since the merge seems obvious. The same goes for the upcoming Sulitz merge. Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 05:46, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Were the two days September 14 and 15? Those 2 days were ערב שבת and שבת! I have nothing against the merge, but don't try to fool me by telling me that you gave me 2 days. -- -- -- 19:15, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My justification was not the "two-day silence" but that "the merge seems obvious". I didn't think any silence was necessary; I thought the two articles were completely neglected. But the status quo has been returned now, and I don't mind at all - on the contrary, I've tried fixing the most glaring mistakes and referencing, so it's all מאי דהוה הוה anyways. Followed simple WP:Splitting guidelines; the article was getting very large, despite being far from complete (I estimate that, without splitting, the page would easily reach 150K), and the split into sub-dynasties is natural. Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 03:52, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced information, but likely to be sourced eventually, moved from article

[edit]

References can be found now, which I, personally, trust, but do not meet reliability criteria yet.

I am adding the unreliable sources in red.

Additional contemporary Ropshitzer rebbes:

the Ropshitzer Rebbe of Kiryas Joel,[1] New York; the Ropshitzer Rebbe of Jerusalem, Israel; and Rebbe Moshe Yaakov Horowitz,[dubiousdiscuss] the Ropshitzer Rebbe of Bet Shemesh, Israel.[citation needed]

Part of the Ropshitz branch:

Rebbe Menachem Mendel Zeida Rubin of Kolbasov, son of Rebbe Moshe of Raniżów (from his first marriage).[citation needed] He married Gitel, daughter of his cousin, Rebbe Asher Yeshaya Rubin of Kolbasov. He was a dayan in Kolbasov. He died in the Holocaust.[2]

Another descendent of the Dzhikov branch

[edit]

Rabbi Meir Horowitz had daughter named Chana, whose son is Shalom David Unger, who was the Jabno Rebbe. His sister, Perel or Pearl, married Rav Yisroel Spira, who is the Bluzhever, the oldest living Chasidic rebbe at the time of his death. I wasn't sure if descendents by marriage through daughters are legitimate branches, and I don't know if on-line geneologies count as sources, so I'm posting this in the talk section.

Any guidance?

True, online genealogies (especially geni.com) are not considered reliable sources, but the information in this case can easily be confirmed in better sources. However, following the conventions of books that describe Chasidic dynasties, Rabbis Unger and Spira belong to different dynasties, and should be mentioned in different articles. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 17:06, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, HaSirpad:

Certainly no longer a stub. I assess as C-class for now. The dynastic information seems thorough and adequately cited (though you might add an ISBN or the like for ha-Ḥasidut mi-dor le-dor, if such is available). Main impediment to B-class is that you need some description of what makes Ropshitzers distinctive from other dynasties. Good luck, and Good Shabbos.
