Region of origin

[edit]

I have changed the region of origin from British Isles to Great Britain as the article makes no reference to Ireland (only England, Scotland and Wales). If anyone wants to add the term back I suggest they find a reference to support the edit. People may/may not be aware that restrictions are in place concerning the addition of the term without suitable references. Bjmullan (talk) 22:25, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A reference that states England etc. is in the BI - easy. Van Speijk (talk) 13:59, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Further, on a point of order, BJM, no one has added the term "British Isles" to this article. The usage has been in place from the creation of the article. You, on the other hand, removed it here [1], so if anyone is in breach of anything it is you. Van Speijk (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is NO reference to support using BI and that is why it was removed. Bjmullan (talk) 14:53, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Every word and phrase on Wikipedia doesn't need a reference. Van Speijk (talk) 14:54, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will remind you of the restrictions which Cailil has already warned you about: Any editor who systematically adds or removes the term "British Isles" from multiple articles without clear sourcing and justification, or who edit-wars over such addition or removal, may be added to the list of topic-banned editors. Bjmullan (talk) 14:59, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The words systematic and multiple are important here. Nevertheless, with regard to this article, there is no need to provide a reference stating that the name Rosie originates in the British Isles (I think that is your proposition). The article states that the name is popular in England, Scotland and Wales, so when it comes to specifying the region of those places British Isles fits the bill. There is no need for a reference; it's a given that E, S and W are in the British Isles. And I have not seen it mandated anywhere that before the term British Isles can be used it must be inclusive of Ireland, or of any other of its parts for that matter. Van Speijk (talk) 19:18, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So you would have no problem changing this to Europe then? It is normal practise to use the smallest region/group/area when describing something and in the case of EWS this is exactly GB. But as I said you have already been warned and the last time we cross paths you even made up a new record just so you could include the term BI. I will not be getting into a edit war with you but I will be taking your actions further... Bjmullan (talk) 20:02, 26 May 2012(UTC)
Parts of England, Scotland and Wales are not actually in Great Britain, so to use that term is not accurate, whereas British Isles is. Europe is hopeless; it doesn't tie down the location sufficiently. I think British Isles is just about right to do this. Van Speijk (talk) 20:08, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Van Speijk if you just want an accurate term for EWS rather than any excuse for using BI might I suggest that UK is used instead? Bjmullan (talk) 20:50, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
UK includes NI, and I'm not looking for an excuse to use BI, it's been in this article from the beginning. It's you who are looking for an excuse to remove it. Van Speijk (talk) 20:55, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure of your logic Van Speijk; you reject GB because it misses out a few islands and the UK is unsuitable because it includes NI but you are more than happy with BI which includes RoI, CI and the IoM. Strange but then so was making up a record title ... Bjmullan (talk) 21:14, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What are you on about? I've no more to say on the matter. Van Speijk (talk) 21:23, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
