Proposed merge with Harz Red mountain cattle[edit]

The Harzer Rotvieh no longer exists as a breed. Its bloodlines were merged into the Rotes Höhenvieh in the 1980s. It would be better covered as a section within this article. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:30, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: It still exists as a sub breed and there are efforts to re-establish it. If you like to merge, you have to expand this article with the other subbreeds: Vogelsberger Rotvieh[1], the Waldecker Rotvieh, the Sauer- und Siegerländer Rotvieh, the Schlesier Rotvieh, the Odenwälder Rotvieh, the Bayrisches Rotvieh, the Sächsisches Rotvieh/the Vogtländer Rotvieh([2], [3]) to keep it a balanced article.
Please be careful copying the text: "Since 1980 the Harz Red cattle has been only a variety of the Angeln breed." I don't know, if that is correct. In Eastern Germany, there is a different history of that breed. --PigeonIP (talk) 13:39, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, PigeonIP, actually I was hoping that you might give a hand with some of that, since you're clearly way ahead of me with all of this! But yes, that was my idea, to mention any regional sub-breed that has a reference. And yes, you'll note that I didn't copy that note about the Angeln, as it didn't agree with what the other sources say.
