Name[edit]

I moved the name back to Roy Chapman Andrews. This is the name printed on the covers of his various books, so I guess it is appropriate here. Unless of course someone can show that "Roy Andrews" is indeed more popular now. Yaan (talk) 11:32, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inspiration[edit]

Considering the large number of childrens' books written by Roy Chapman Andrews it might be interesting to explore how many geologists and paleontologists were inspried to enter these carreers due to Andrews' influence. I myself was greatly inspired by reading "All About Dinosaurs" as a boy and ended up a geologist partly because of this. Several years ago I spoke with Philip Currie of the University of Alberta and he told me that the same book influenced his career choice. I have heard the same about such paleontological luminaries as Bob Bakker and John R. Horner but I know of no direct quotes from them concerning being influenced by Andrews as children. Funding[edit]

It might be interesting to explore how Roy Chapman Andrews funded his expeditions. The book "Into the Jungle" by Sean Carroll has a chapter dedicated to Chapman's life where it talks about Chapman rubbing elbows with Carnegie and other rich men of the time who help finance his expeditions Dollm (talk) 23:46, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
