Lede

[edit]

Surely there are more important things for the lede than a dispute over priority of establishment? SovalValtos (talk) 12:49, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been around for some time - I suspect it should be merged here. Thoughts, anyone? Johnbod (talk) 03:30, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

William Duesbury III

[edit]
"William Duesbury III, born in 1790, son of William Duesbury II, took over the factory when he came of age in 1791..."

If he was born in 1790 (which is reasonable if he was the son of William II, 1763–1796/7?) he certainly didn't come of age in 1791, when he was one year old, and wouldn't have taken over the factory over then, while his father was still alive. He would have come of age in 1811, which corresponds to the chronological position of this paragraph in the story. On the other hand the article on William Duesbury (1763–1796) states that William III was born in 1787 and inherited (presumably on his majority in 1808) but did not take part in the business. A quick Google doesn't find me any solid references, and finds a few that repeat the implausible assertion above, which has been in Wikipedia for almost 12 years.

I'm at least going to take out the 1791 date.
