Rug Hooking vs. Latch Hooking[edit]

Rug hooking says that this craft is in contrast to latch hooking, but searching for latch hook redirects one to rug hooking. Clarification? Perhaps if latch hook is different enough it needs a separate page or even just a separate section within rug hooking?--66.166.148.131 (talk) 20:52, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rug hooking is very different from latch hooking. 24.112.250.15 (talk) 00:25, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Latch hooking is distinctive enough from rug hooking that it merits more information on this page, especially a diagram. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.114.226.82 (talk) 17:41, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a good article on traditional rug hooking - the latch hooking section is intrusive. I am removing it, if there is interest it should have a separate article. Saxophobia (talk) 20:13, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article should have more history of rug hooking - there was a close connection between the importation of burlap in the mid-nineteenth century and the spread of rug hooking. Also, the dye industry made tremendous advances that allowed hookers to use many more colors in rugs starting toward the end of the nineteenth century. A lot of rugs had been made before Pearl McGown entered the picture, it would be a shame if we forget all about those early hookers and teachers. For example, Mrs. Sanders, who was Pearl McGown's teacher and the wife of Pearl's employer, taught for many years and produced two very powerful rug hooking advocates - Pearl, who made a business out of teaching hooking and __________________ (my mind has blanked on her name) who also wrote a book about hooking and taught teachers through the mail. There is a very good chance that Pearl did not originate the ideas for her business since there were others who did basically the same things before her - however, Pearl created a huge following and she did outlast all of the others.
