Soap[edit]

Removed the following original research:

"Unlike certain other east African nations such as Uganda, Kenya, or even Egypt, rugby has been a late arrival to Ethiopia. This is probably partly due to the fact that the country was only briefly colonised by a European power - the Italians - which did not leave much lasting influence.

Rugby was introduced into Ethiopia via Kenya, which has not been very successful at World Cup level, but which does very well at rugby sevens and has a strong league competition.

Ethiopia's poverty and lack of infrastructure have been a hindrance to the growth of the game, but the country is much more stable than it was formerly."

It is also WP:OFFTOPIC and WP:SOAPBOXING. Middayexpress (talk) 16:17, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In particular, the personal opinions below:
  • "rugby has been a late arrival to Ethiopia[...] probably partly due to the fact that the country was only briefly colonised by a European power - the Italians - which did not leave much lasting influence"
  • "rugby was introduced into Ethiopia via Kenya"
  • "Ethiopia's poverty and lack of infrastructure have been a hindrance to the growth of the game, but the country is much more stable than it was formerly" Middayexpress (talk) 12:55, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Statements such as "This is probably die to the fact that" are stated as opinion, and would need to be backed up with a source opining that this is the reason why rugby did not take hold in Ethiopia. Although I would agree that the fascists were unsuccessful in their colonialization attempts, this does not really explain why soccer became more popular in Ethiopia, and rugby only recently. So I would remove that part. "Rugby was introduced into Ethiopia via Kenya" sounds like a factual statement, but it needs attributation to a source. The third statement sounds fair enough, the country is again becoming more stabilized than it has been in decades, but it does not really explain the difference why soccer has always been popular and successful while rugby was not. Agreed. I've fixed the statements. Middayexpress (talk) 15:01, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Idiocy[edit]

Can you stop removing material please? Mussolini's invasion of Ethiopia is not original research, but is relevant to this article, as the Fascists promoted rugby.--MacRùsgail (talk) 15:37, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the article makes it look as if rugby was only introduced during the 21st Century, which is completely wrong. Rugby in Ethiopia dates back at least fifty years.--MacRùsgail (talk) 16:14, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
