Hopewell is very similar to Sterling, Illinois
[edit]Hopewell, the "fictional" town of the book, bears many striking similarities to the real town of Sterling, Illinois, which is Terry Brooks' home town. Like the fictional Hopewell, Sterling has a Sinnissippi Park, with a graveyard right next to it, low-income housing named Sinnissippi Townhomes right near the park, a principal street named Lincolnway (that divides into third and fourth street, like in the book), a (now mostly closed) steel mill on the Rock River, old mansions near the steel mill, and poorer homes in the west end of town.
