Name[edit]

I come from that part of the world, and all my life I've known this village as Rushton Spencer, which is currently a redirect. My mother (b 1931 in Baddeley Green) also always used that name. Could somebody point to a ref that the correct name is Rushton? I've only ever heard local villagers call it that, and I always assumed that was an abbreviation. --Ef80 (talk) 18:53, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst it is common practice to refer to the area as a whole as “Rushton Spencer”, at one time there were two adjacent Manors (Rushton Spencer and Rushton James)which were formed into civil parishes called Rushton Spencer and Rushton James. The two parishes were amalgamated under a Local Government Act in 1934 to form Rushton Civil Parish. So, the Parish is actually (simply) Rushton.
