GA Review

[edit]

The article isn't too bad, though here's some issues I found:

  • The lead is decent but not great. Expand it a bit and make it a summary of the article, as it should be. Also, references are not needed in the lead unless it's something really disputed, which the current reffed things are not.
  • "I don't really remember when my parents separated, and it's probably better that way because I know kids these days go through some tough times," says Martin. Citation needed.
  • Minor leagues section needs expanding.
  • Martin was called up to the Dodgers after a wrist injury landed Navarro on the disabled list. Might want to point out who Navarro is.
  • Most of the paragraphs start with dates, i.e. On March 25, 2006... try mixing it up a bit.
  • By the same token, the prose isn't as good as I'd like to see in a GA, too much "on blank, this happened" and the like.
  • The team has performed well since Martin's arrival; he has played well both offensively and defensively, and he has gained the trust of the pitchers. Citation needed.
  • Avoid one sentence paragraphs.
  • Expand Personal life a bit. For active players I imagine that type of info should be easier to find, unlike with retired players.
  • Martin has excelled since taking over the starting catcher's job. Feels POV-ish.
  • Infobox stats and statistics section need updating since the season is over (though the playoffs are still going).
  • Also, there's no mention of how he's done in the playoffs, though he's been there twice now.

I'll put the article on hold, but personally I'd request that you just ask me to fail it for now and go through a peer review, then try for GA again after that. It's a nice article, but there's probably more work that needs to be done that I missed. Wizardman 17:51, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm.. upon reading it a second time I'm going to fail this article, since it seems my requests would be better if not rushed, plus there's quite a bit to do. Wizardman 19:12, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
