Areas for improvement[edit]

Sąjūdis was the major agent in regaining Lithuania's independence, so I find it peculiar that there is so little information about it the English version of Wikipedia page. The edits so far give a very succint overview. Being from Lithuania, as far as I can tell, all information provided is accurate. Nonetheless, I believe it should be expanded given how successful, as a reformist movement, Sąjūdis was. The formation of the movement, I believe, deserves more explanation, especially its ideological agenda. I have attempted to make a mention, however, without more accessible sources on the topic, it is hard give a clear overview. Similar critique goes the After independence section. Given how successful the movement was in gaining independence, it is more than peculiar how they were almost abolished when the actual governing started. My input here includes, again, some ideological explanations and some spotlight on the rural demographic of Lithuania, who were dealbreaker for Sąjūdis success.

Another, a bit more controversial, aspect to consider here would the connections between Sąjūdis and Lithuanian Communist Party. In the general narrative they are presented as rivals, however, the study by Timofey Agarin suggests that two groups somewhat intentionally coordinated their actions to gain independence for Lithuania.
