Reason for move
[edit]I've just moved SS Republic to SS Republic (1853) in order to use the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ships convention on ship naming to distinguish this ship from the two White Star Line ships of the same name, which I'll be working on shortly. In addition, I've expanded the article greatly, but unfortunately neglected to put in an edit summary statement. Akradecki 16:41, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Radio ads
[edit]I've been hearing radio ads where a company is claiming to be selling uncirculated Confederate silver half dollars with the New Orleans mint mark from the wreck of the Republic. Why would a US ship be carrying uncirculated Confederate coins to New Orleans? Corvus cornix 17:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Lawsuit
[edit]SS Republic is currently the subject of a lawsuit over the gold recovery, as E. Lee Spence claims in a lawsuit that Odyssey Marine used his information in their efforts to locate the wreck. A judge in South Carolina has ruled that the case may proceed in that state, reversing his own earlier decision. (My emphasis.)
