Cemetary

Theres a cemetary at this school? Can somebody verify this? Hedley 22:59, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes, there is indeed a cemetary at SHS. Salesian Fathers and Brothers are buried in the gated cemetary behind the residence, It's visible in satelite photos of the school. DukeB-120th 02:00, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

I am a student of Salesian High School and there is a cemetary by the priests' residence, and Salesian's from all around California a buried there. He Who Laughs Last 04:45, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Mascot

I tried to remedy the "citation needed" flag for the new mascot... It doesnt appear correctly, but the link is within ref tags in the article and I will also post it here: http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/news/16496964.htm

WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 14:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

citations

per WP:PROVEIT citation needed/fact tags may not be removed except when they are being replaced by Reliable sources with in line citations.

i.e. <ref name="short source name suchas sfchron"[website space name of article], author, publisher, date of publishing, date of access</ref>

addition material sourced by this same citation should use

<ref name="sfchron"/>

as long as it is below the first instance of use

in the references section they will appear as ^ if one use or a-b-c-d-e-f... etc.

thank youMYINchile 20:02, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

  • your tagging of individual lines is counterproductive. It messes up the artilce and can be construed as vandalism. Please stop this nonsense. I reverted back to before you started tagging all the sentences. I'm sorry idf the other chnages have been lost, but I don't want to have to go line by line and remove all your tags. Philly jawn (talk) 23:11, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
No it is not, i can't tag section headers, plus you removed the improve references banner too. all sentences that are not verified may be tagged with a "citation needed" tag PERIOD. That's the way things work around here. Also if after three days a source is not identified the material may be removed by anyone who thinks its untrue. It may be moved to the discussion page until a source is found. But i beseech you, why not improve the article by adding references, if you are close to the school please point out a newspaper article or website that can reliably verify those statements. If sources are not found, i can just remove the content and it won't look bad anymore.MYINchile 00:51, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I know that much of this information comes from the Student-Parent handbook that the school puts out each year, because I am the one who put it there. It can be properly sourced if the WP community would admit this paper handbook as a source. DukeB-120th 06:32, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia does not accept Original Research which this handbook may be, it needs to be readily available to the general public not just the Salesian Community. However anything posted and freely available at the school website is very usable. There is also the issue that the text in this article seemed to be copied and pasted directly from that handbook and thus constitutes plagiarism and a copyright violation. Furthermore constant reverts to the handbook version are contrary to the established rules that anybody can edit Wikipedia. Things are not written in stone and you must let people rewrite sentences, remove one, move one around, change vocabulary, merge fragments, split off run ons, reorganized large portions of text. There is also a conflict of interest. If you are an employee of the school you should not edit this article due to your inherent bias, all edits you wish to see effectuated should be brought up here and a consensus formed on the proper course before they are added/edited in by someone besides you.MYINchile 18:25, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
No, I am not an employee but an alumni. I'm in agreement that the sort of "peacock" writing should be out of there though. DukeB-120th talk 20:00, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I found the text from the handbook on the SHS website. [1] Since we don't want to have it verbatim, but we do want it for sourcing, this will work for paraphrasing and citing it. Also, Chile, I dont know what was wrong with the citation I added for the mascot section? It was a link to the Contra Costa Times archives, and although you could only see the first few lines of the article, it most certainly was not a dead link. DukeB-120th talk 20:00, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
sorry i didn't see a line there, or even one sentence or word having to do with this school.MYINchile 22:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
the directly copied text that caused this article to be banhammered actually started off with an edit made in 2005 by a user named Jboenzi. I thought that I had put it there but thats probably because the vast majority of my time on WP has gone toward tending to this article. Anyways, I have made the decision to step back from this article from the time being, as my I have no desire to participate in a clusterfuck. I think all parties have made good faith edits, but I cant keep up with this mess. It comes off as really petulant and has the unpleasantness of an edit war. I have better things to do with my university vacation than to have my contributions to a high school wiki page picked apart. Take care. DukeB-120th talk 05:54, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

metric

the metric needs to be there for people who live in english speaking countries that don't use the american/imperial/english form such as Australia, the UK, New Zealand, South Africa, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Canada, Ireland, etc. WP:MOSCUM does not apply because this is not obtrusive to the opening line and is a small singular instance.MYINchile 18:43, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Sister School?

I highly doubt that Saint Mary's CHS was a sister school of Salesian HS. One of the biggest pieces of evidence is that SHS is a Salesian institution and SMCHS is a Lasallian institution. Was it even an all-girls school? We need some sourcing here, it almost sounds patently false. DukeB-120th talk 20:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

I went there too for two years. Saint Mary's is the rival school. Saint Mary's was formerly an all girls school. And what i meant by sister school is that in the general area men would attend Salesian and women would attend Saint Mary's.MYINchile 22:53, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

The sole copyright problem in this article seems to have consisted in two sentences. Currently, the article is copyright violation free. Contributors are reminded, please, not to incorporate phrases or sentences from other sources without proper attribution. See WP:C and WP:FU for more.

While investigating copyright concerns, I have ensured that the article is fully sourced. This means that I have removed some unverifiable information. Please feel free to restore removed information with proper sources. Some of the information formerly included seems to have run counter to existing sources. For example, according to it's history section, St. Mary's was a school for young men from its founding in 1863 until it began accepting girls in 1995, "its first year of coeducation." It does not seem ever to have been an all female school, and there is no mention of any formal connection to Salesian High School there. (If a different St. Mary's is intended, then clearly the wikilink and the address need to be changed.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:11, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

nice, but

This is a nice article but

  • lists .... you do soccer and foot ball And you are an american school ... tell us something we don't know!
  • You used to be a school to train boys who wanted to be monks in the Silesian order. This order is to care for the children of the industrial revolution ... which could include schools. So nowadys how many traineee monks have you got? The world doesnt know about Silesian pride.... tell us about it.
  • Keep your pictures subtle - you can click on them if you want to see them all.

Hope to see this on "Did You know" ....
