Royal Navy

During the Second World War the British Navy nicknamed the German battleships Gneisenau and Scharnhorst "Salmon" and "Gluckstein". Ref. page 437 of ALL THE WORLD'S FIGHTING FLEETS by E. C. Talbot-Booth printed circa 1943. Anyone know why?
