Decrese in krill -- increase in salps J& M Theberge--The Ptarmigan's Dilemma: page 334 Salps preferred food is incresing due to the loss to of food preferred by krill. Author notes that this food is less nutritious & since these animals are the bottom of the food chair, it leads to less energy being transferred which is only 1% in current calculations from level to level. http://catalog.tadl.org/opac/extras/ac/jacket/large/9780771085192.

It is akin to the disaster that killed the in-shore Orca that had to do with the lesser nutritious pollack after the cod was caught out in the waters of the northern San Juan Strait in Alaska.

Predators and uses[edit]

When reading about the life-cycle of the salp, I was left wondering about it's natural predators, if it has any and if there are any uses for the creature by humans as food, medicine etc. Or is it considered a pest? Pilot Dawg (talk) 20:32, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
