Wikipedia presence in Thailand?[edit]

Why doesn't Thailand have an online Wikipedia presence? Not enough English speakers? Should Wickerpedia reach out to Thailand? Do they have a moral duty to do so? I don't know, probably not.

1976?[edit]

I just pulled these couple of paragraphs from the article. I *think* they refer to 1976, but it isn't absolutely clear that that is the case. I don't think we need to care if there is an extant online reference to cite... If anyone here *knows* that the activity described therein occurred in 1976, we'll add them back. Comments, please.

In late August Seni sent Samak to Singapore for the purpose of persuading Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn not to return to Thailand.[1] Paul M. Handley contends, however, that Samak was a close confidant of Queen Sirikit and had been sent by King Bhumibol to guarantee royal support for the exiled Field Marshal.[2] This charge is apparently supported by Samak's claim during a cabinet meeting that the King had endorsed Thanom's return.
On October 5 Samak was removed from his ministerial position, and in reaction organised an anti-government demonstration calling for the removal of three young liberal Democrat ministers who he branded as being "communists".[3] On the evening of following massacre on October 6 he headed a lynch mob which confronted Prime Minister Seni in front of Government House.[4] --AStanhope (talk) 01:08, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It must be 1976, since in 1975 Seni was only prime minister between February and March, and the first sentence says 'in August.' Seni was PM again from April to October 6, 1976, the date mentioned in the second bit (according to our very own Wiki article). So by all means put them back in. TV chef[edit]

Alleged Chinese name[edit]

The article stated that Samak has a Chinese name, reflecting the tendency of some Thai editors to "out" everyone they don't like as being really Chinese. But the footnote to this "name" states: "Li Shama is a name coined by the Thai Chinese community. However Samak never had a true Chinese name himself." Source: “铁嘴”沙马成泰国新总理立志为他信洗刷罪名. Since this is not name he has ever himself used, it is not a real name and should not be listed as though it was. Intelligent Mr Toad (talk) 11:38, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How come there isn't any mention of the anti-governmental rallies currently going on in Bangkok against Thaksin, Samak, and others?[edit]

I have recently been to the rallies, but being a foreigner and not having read up much on the rallies, I do not feel like I should be the one to write that section. Well, even if he won, there is still political battle ahead, in streets, etc. But the investors were OK, for now. Amid 4 months in power and public / street protests by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), Samak Sundaravej, 73, and all 7 cabinet members, on June 27, 2008, survived the no-confidence motion / 3 days censure debate terminated by the Friday voting session. About 2008 political crisis section[edit]

I see same message at least in 3 articles. Shouldn't it only in one place easily maintain consistency? I think we should write only prelude or summary about it and put link to main article. AnaTo (talk) 15:03, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree,it goes on for far too long and there's a separate article devoted to it anyway. Also the reasoning of the court in the following section goes on forever; I think the bare judgment will do nicely.Sartoresartus (talk) 08:31, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
