ambiguous place names[edit]

Several of the places in the ITF titles section are links to disambiguation pages. Could somebody who knows something about ITF Tennis please fix these links by making them link directly to the correct town/city? Thankyou. --Scott Davis Talk 10:12, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Doubles/Mixed doubles[edit]

Should it state in the info box that Sam won a Wimbledon Doubles title in 2008? I don't believe we should merge Mixed Doubles with Women Doubles. Perhaps a separate section in the info box is needed.

We have /ˈstoʊsə/ I'd have thought it was /ˈstoʊzə/, at least that's what's used by British commentators. Also in the US there's an final r so /ˈstoʊzər/. Renard Migrant (talk) 16:07, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"first... since..." (2010)[edit]

I may be missing something but, in the 2010 entry, if Stosur would have been the "first Australian woman to win a major since Evonne Goolagong won Wimbledon in 1980" then why is she not also the "first Australian woman to reach a Grand Slam singles final" since Evonne Goolagong? (It says "since Wendy Turnbull at the 1980 Australian Open".) Maybe two points are being made here, but are not well said; or, one point with a mix-up. It seems the Australian Open was played in January until 1977 when it was played in January and December. From 1978 to 1985 it was played in December. It was not played in 1986, but from 1987 has been January. Polish Roots[edit]

She only says that one of her grandparents was Polish. She is Australian, and she doesn't speak Polish. This is a systemic problem in wikipedia: people get represented as belonging to nations from which they have minority ancestry, if that nationality is very keen to puff up its claim on the descendants of immigrants. Very likely, she more British than Polish ancestry, but British ancestry is routinely overlooked as we accept that people who left the country left the country, and it doesn't suit the PC agenda of the liberal media to mention Britishness. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luwilt (talk) 22:51, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Friendships"[edit]

"Stosur is single and is good friends with tennis players Gigi Fernandez, Rennae Stubbs and Lisa Raymond".

"Morrow, who is a retired Olympic softball player, despite having been in Stosur's entourage since early 2009, has only been recently identified by Eurosport's Sam Smith as Stosur's personal trainer."

There are no cited references to substantiate personal friendships with Fernandez, Stubbs and Raymond, although such friendships would be unsurprising. Fernandez coached Stosur earlier in her career and Stosur has won women's doubles grand slam titles with Raymond and has appeared in women's doubles grand slam finals with Stubbs. However it is not suggested that Stosur has a similar friendship with more recent doubles partners Sabine Lisicki and Nadia Patrova. The inference seems to be that friendships with Fernande, Stubbs and Raymond are somehow "special". Elsewhere on Wikipedia, Fernandez is identified as being in a same-sex relationship with former professional golfer Jane Geddes. Similarly it is reported that doubles partners Rennae Stubbs and Lisa Raymond were lovers. There is a snide but obvious insinuation in the "personal life paragraph that Stosur (a) is gay and (b) that her relationship with Simmone Morrow is something other than purely professional based on the flimsiest of evidence. Personal life[edit]

There was nothing about her personal life in this article until I added something. On 13 July 2020 the Australian press reported that her previously hardly known lesbian partner, Liz Astling, had given birth to a daughter the previous month and Stosur now considered herself a mother. 220.240.2.134 (talk) 12:22, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Geoffrey Hilliard.[reply]
