Essex's name being brought up during the investigationof Byck. Essex Being the Black man that killed one or more police officers before holding up in the New Orleans Downtown Howard Johnson, and being killed by police in 1973.

Just curious - "He began to believe that the government was conspiring to oppress the poor." - it's not sourced or anything, I'm curious if this was an irrational belief, or was he actually interested in ending poverty (obviously he had problems, but is it so crazy to think the government oppresses the poor? Anderson or Bernstein or Both?[edit]
mention is made to tapes sent to jack anderson and tapes sent to leonard berstein. did he send tapes to both? did he send tapes to others as well?

Actually, the co-pilot died during the hijacking; he was shot in the stomach right after Byck entered the cockpit and then later in the head, killing him. The pilot lived (as the wiki article states). He was shot in the shoulder. CheshiresMasquerade (talk) 22:42, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Proof of the Media Cover Up[edit]
This article states that Sam Byck's assassination attempt went purposely unreported by the media, fearing copycat crimes. The allegation that there was a media cover up is something that I would like to see substantiated. Until then, I am going to mark it as "citation needed".
- I recall reading contemporary New York Times / Washington Post articles (while researching Byck at university) that mentioned that his target was the White House. This information was reported a few days after the attack happened (presumably the delay in finding the tapes?). Unfortunately I no longer have access to a newspaper archive and so I cannot confirm this - however this would stand as evidence of 'no cover up', and so I too would be very interested in seeing substantiation for the above claim.--Gypsydave5 (talk) 16:48, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
