Ghubar Table?[edit]

I am unsure of the appropriateness of including Ghubar in this article. I have found no references to "ghubar table" (other than Wikipedia) and quite clearly the Arabic word transliterated to "ghubar" means "sand". Surely there is an Arabic word for "sand table" and a section with the transliteration of that word (or words) with references would be appropriate in this article.

The reference cited for this section is only marginally reliable and does not support the assertion that "ghubar" means "sand table" but refers to "ghubar" numberals as the origin of Arabic numerals.

The The MacTutor History of Mathematics archive is "only marginally reliable"? What an odd statement. mfc

I am inclined to delete this section unless there is substantive argument otherwise.

Similar references appear in mosts of the text on numarals, e.g., Ifrah (Universal History of numbers). I think the relevance to sand table is very high -- the numerals are well-designed for writing in sand (rather than carving in stone, for example). mfc 15:54, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sand Table vs Terrain Model[edit]

I noticed that "sand table" and "terrain model" are used interchangeably in this article, however, its my understanding as a Marine that sand tables are specifically tables full of sand used in a classroom or command setting while terrain models are made of the earth and used in the field for combat exercises and operations. I'm not sure if this a Marine thing or not so I'll leave the page unedited. But if I'm right, I think the page should be clarified to distinguish between the two. I am the original author of this page and I think starting a terrain model page would be useful and then linking the terrain model page back to the appropriate section here.
