Sandhurst[edit]

I am removing the text shown in quotes below, and other references to Sam Carpenter (posted by IP 213.166.17.25 on 22 March) from the article because I wish to dispute the notability of Sam Carpenter as a famous resident. I lived there for a number of years and have never heard of him. Whilst not necessarily disputing the facts below, I think it would be helpful to cite some references before giving the information such prominence in the article. "Sandhurst is the home of Sam 'Big C' Carpenter, a man who is famous in many fields including politics, sport and music. The captain of FACC. Carpenter used the town for influence of his finest musical work 'Sandhurst calling'. He also planned on using the town's park as a central location for filming in his unsucessful film production 'Wonderwall'"

Also, the 'History' section of the article is a massive copyright violation from the town council website. Other chunks of text may have come from the same source. This article probably needs a good going over now to sort some of this out, although on an initial read the material seems to be sound. Mazzy 14:18, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have also been living in the Sandhurst area for many years. I have in fact heard of this man. He has been very prominent in the community and surrounding area. He has been known to perform in political protests and playing in bands for many reasons. He has also organised many sporting events, i feel due to his actvies his reinstation in the article would be appropriate. -- Cfcrule1 16:46, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do question whether the wikipedian named "mazzy" has actually lived in Sandhurst for many years. Anyone who has taken part in community events or has an interest in local politics wll have heard of sam Carpenter. Can I also question the inclusion of Jimmy Savile as a famous resident? I've never heard any mention of him in all the time I've lived in Sandhurst - although his links with Crowthorne/Broadmoor are well known. Sandhurst → Sandhurst, Berkshire — to make way for the disambiguation page currently at Sandhurst (disambiguation). The undisambiguated name "Sandurst" is widely-used to refer to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, an internationally-known military establishment which is commonly known simply as "Sandhurst" ... and is better known than the nearby town of the same name. Pat, that's a perverse !vote. If you think that the primary meaning is the Royal Military Academy, then the village needs to be moved out of the way so that the Royal Military Academy can be moved to the undisambiguated title, or Sandhurst redirected to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Support. Sandhurst is a town with a population of 20,000, not a small village. Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is probably more notable, but it is only a building (or group of buildings) in the town, it isn't just called Sandhurst, and there is already a link in the lead section. The advantage of moving the article (and moving the disambiguation page to "Sandhurst") is that it would be easier to find incorrect links. The undisambiguated title is likely to have links intended for both articles, and where the town is what was intended, a redirect to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst could be misleading. Peter E. Proposed merge to this article of Eagle House School[edit]

Oppose. School is plainly notable, and the last thing the Sandhurst, Berkshire, page needs is to be cluttered up with the history of a prep school and a list of those who attended it. Moonraker (talk) 23:06, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
