1.2 km length

[edit]

I've added a coordinate link to the article as I was sure the empty rectangle at Khovd city North really is the fortress. It is this image in Panoramio. Both images (in Wiki and in Panoramio) show the paved street along the wall. I can not imagine any other this castle locations.

But the rectangle length is 330 m every of 4 sides. And respectively 1320 total (measurements were made in Google Earth using high resolution satellite photo). But in the article is written 1.2 km every side (not total - total would be 4.8 km). Is it possible one side value and total value were missed? Yes, this the place. The figures that I found may not be exact.Your measurements should yield more accurate results. Gantuya eng (talk) 11:16, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I restored the last sentence to the initial form, because it is accepted in Mongolian history to use the term "liberation" for Uliastai and Khovd. It's not conquest of foreign territory. Khatanbaatar and Magsarjav left Urga with some 200 soldiers and the main mass of the Mongolian "Army" was made up of local people. This is true liberation. I am sure the storming caused damages to the fort, but according to the original sentence (as understood by this editor) its present condition (completely empty with no trace of historical monument) is the result of 100 year "weathering" without maintenance.
