Notable Alumni[edit]

The third paragraph of the article states that the alumni include a Catholic cardinal. I could not find any such person. If that is still correct, please add that person to the related entry for "List of Santa Clara University people." Fultie771 (talk) 23:26, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Administration section contradicts itself: must the president be a Jesuit?[edit]

According to the second paragraph of the section on Administration, an internal statute stipulates that the president must be a Jesuit, but the final paragraph of the section says that the current president is a layperson (and a woman). I suppose there must have been a change in the internal statute, but since I know nothing about the matter, I'm reluctant to make a change myself. CTourneur (talk) 04:17, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In 2014, when the statement that the president must be a Jesuit, the cited source (section 2.2 of the Faculty Handbook, dated May 9, 2002) read "Of the Jesuit Trustees, one shall be the President of the University and one shall be the Rector of the Jesuit Community at Santa Clara University.". The current handbook, purportedly "With revisions as of 01/20/2023", reads the same way; and section 2.3 additionally says "The President is the chief executive officer of the University. In accordance with the Bylaws of the President and Board of Trustees of Santa Clara University, he must be a member of the Society of Jesus." But that's not in keeping with the actual by-laws themselves as amended June 28, 2021, which says (in Article VII) "The President need not be a member of the Society of Jesus."
So the article is unfortunately replicating the University's own inconsistencies. TJRC (talk) 04:56, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
