Clean up?

[edit]

This article turned up in my SuggestBot message as being "Unencyclopaedic" and in need of a bit of cleanup. Since it is a mid-importance article, I thought it best to post here first. I can see that the language needs a bit of attention as well as the Wikifying. Does anybody mind if I have a go at this? w.carter-Talk 12:38, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead. I might help you eventually. Lappspira (talk) 15:50, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
 Working ...it's going to take a while. Please be patient. w.carter-Talk 22:02, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Lappspira: The reason this is going to take to long to clean up, is that there are some many faults, misspellings, mistakes and whatnots in the article that I have to check everything against other articles and sources. (Remember that this is a translation from a French article, not a Scandinavian, so names and local knowledge are the main issues.) I will deal with each issue as I get to them. Lucky there is no deadline here! Best, w.carter-Talk 07:10, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done I have made as much cleanup as I can. There may be goofs, typos and other screw-ups that will need further correcting. Please go ahead and correct them. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 12:46, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the POV tag at The Sami exception section

[edit]

The tag was placed by an IP that probably did not know that the tag should also be discussed on the talk page. They only left a comment in the edit summery.

However, the IP was right. It was a dead link. The sentence was also faulty in regards to numerous other sources covering the same event. Some of which are now added to the article instead of the dead link. The use of the word "slaughtered" was a remnant of the somewhat faulty translation from the French article where a very "flowery" language was used as opposed to the encyclopedic style recommended for the en-wiki. It did not accurately describe the situation. The wolf had wandered into the area, it had been caught, tagged with a radio transmitter and DNA tested. It was monitored, and when it started to scatter the herds as well a killing several reindeers, attempts were made to scare it away. When the situation got worse, a decision was made by the proper authorities, in cooperation with the Sami, to shoot it according to the criteria for Nuisance wildlife management.

Further, the last part of the section was an unsourced translation from the equally unsourced part of the French article. Since the article was otherwise very well sourced (it is a fr-wiki FA), this addendum stands out like a personal comment from the French editor. Therefore, I have removed that part and replaced it with a sourced, and hopefully neutral enough, section about snowmobiles.

I also substituted "Sami villages" with "Sami communities". The Swedish word sv:Sameby is closer to "corporation" than "settlement".

After making these changes, I removed the tag. If anyone objects to this, please replace it and be sure to start a proper discussion about it here on the talk page. w.carter-Talk 12:46, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
