Request for deletion[edit]

Can someone please delete this page? Copycat77 (talk) 05:42, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for deletation: obsolete and irrelevant information. Plus subject’s wish. Copycat77 (talk) 06:22, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Obsolete and irrelevant infotmation are reasons to edit an article not delete it. The subjects request can play a part of the reason but there has to be a valid reason to delete an article. If you truly nelieve the article should be deleted, folow the directions at articles for deletion. ~ GB fan 09:27, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is a privacy violation valid reason? The subject does not allow this information to be on wikipedia and demands this be deleted. Copycat77 (talk) 09:47, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Copycat77, a violation of a Wikipedia Policy may be a valid reason to delete an article. What Wikipedia Policy does this article violate? A subject can demand all they want but their demands are not a valid reason to delete the article. ~ GB fan 10:56, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Reason for deletion: disclosing someone's personal information without consent Copycat77 (talk) 10:01, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you represent the subject of this article? Their date of birth is in the sources provided. 331dot (talk) 10:07, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The subject contests to everything related to the article including all the edits. Copycat77 (talk) 10:12, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am an administrator. Typically the wishes of the subject are not relevant as to if a Wikipedia article about them exists(for example Joe Biden cannot request that the article about him be removed). this is because Wikipedia summarizes publicly available independent reliable sources. The information here is found in public. If you want to argue that this subject is not notable as Wikipedia defines notability, you can do that per WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE. 331dot (talk) 10:31, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you represent the subject, please review conflict of interest and paid editing. 331dot (talk) 10:32, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, this same information exists in Estonian and Egyptian Arabic language Wikpedias, as well as many other sources on the Internet. So removing it here wouldn't change anything if people wanted to find out the limited amount of information on this page. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:05, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Copycat77: As you can see from what's been posted above, a Wikipedia article isn't going to be automatically deleted simply because someone (even the subject of the article) wants it deleted. Specifics about the deletion process can be found here, but in this case I believe what is going to need to be done is for someone to nominate the article for deletion. You can find out how to do that at WP:AFDHOW. Please understand though that an AFD discussion is primarily going to be focused on whether the subject satisfies relevant Wikipedia notability guidelines; you feel Läänmäe doesn't, but others may disagree and feel she does. Basically, the discussion will continue until a WP:CONSENSUS is established either way or an administrator determines that WP:NOCONSENSUS is going to be reached through further discussion. In the latter case, the default is typically to keep the article. The notability guidelines for sportspersons have recently be revised; so, it is possible that under these new guidelines that Läänmäe is no longer Wikipedia notable; such a thing, however, will need to be resolved discussion. Just going to note that both GB fan and 331dot are Wikipedia administrators and one of them would've already deleted the article if it has problems that are serious enough to clearly warrant immediate deletion.

The other possibility (as mentioned above) would be for Läänmäe to request the article's deletion herself per WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE. Your posts seem to indicate that she has expressed this to you, but the Wikipedia community really is going to need to get that directly from her. No disrespect to you intended, but Wikipedia has no way of knowing who you are or what your connection is to Läänmäe simply based on what you've posted so far. Just to clarify, the community doesn't necessarily not believe what you're posting, but it's going need something a bit stronger to go on before deciding to delete the article for such a reason. The easiest way to provide the "proof" that this is what Läänmäe wants is for her to create an WP:ACCOUNT and then have her identify verified by emailing Wikimedia VRT. She should use some official email address if she has one and explain why she wants her identity verified. My suggestion would be for her to simply send off an email asking VRT what information she needs to provide; VRT will respond, and then she can send VRT the information they need. Once her identity has been verified, a VRT member will add Template:Verified account to her userpage; so, that everyone knows that she's really Läänmäe. This still won't automatically mean the article will end up deleted, but her request will carry more weight and likely be given serious consideration by the community.

There is one possible problem with a BLPREQUESTDELETE argument for deletion and that has to do with the fact that there appear to be articles about Läänmäe on two other language Wikipedias. English Wikipedia can only deal with the article about her on English Wikipedia; deletion of the articles on the Estonian and Egyptian Wikipedias will need to be sorted on by the communities of those projects. Not all Wikipedias have exactly the same policies and guidelines, which means what happens on English Wikipedia might not exactly apply on those other Wikipedias. Moreover, a BLPREQUESTDELETE request on English Wikipedia might not be taken very seriously if Läänmäe doesn't make the same request on those two other Wikipedias.

Finally, please understand that if the article is deleted in consideration of Läänmäe's wishes, that's pretty much going to mean it's gone forever. If you or she think that deleting this article means that someone will be able to recreate it later on (perhaps as a more favorable version), then that would be a mistake. Even if she were to subsequently change her mind and post that she does want to have a Wikipedia article about her; it's unlikely going to be allowed. So, please keep that it mind. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:55, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
