Westland

[edit]

"In the same year Saro's helicopter and hovercraft interests were taken over by Westland" - did Saro have anything else ? Did Westland acquire the whole company, or just the businesses ? -- Beardo 23:20, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - have just read this and I know its awhile back but Saro also manufactured buses, small marine craft, emergency lighting, stress gauges, composite material - fittings for train carriages, fuel tankers, electronics (early compueters, rockets - hope this helps. regards --Slmvbs (talk) 07:44, 11 March 2009 (UTC)slmvbs[reply]

[edit]

Not sure if this is useful or not but I am pasting this comment here that was added to the article, To the best of my knowledge most if not all the 624 Leyland Royal Tigers for Autobuses Modernos SA of Havana were shipped as complete vehicles. It was not signed originally. Happy New Year Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 18:07, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Saunders-Roe also built bus bodies in the 1940s and 1950s (and possibly over a longer period). The company supplied a significant number of bodies for London Transport's RT class double decker.

Saro-Gill marine propulsion

[edit]

Wondering if anyone knows anything on Saro-Gill, or Saro/Gill designed marine propulsion units around ? Recorded in Stout Sturdy and Strong, The Alvis Stalwart Story by John Rue This is 1961 Presumably, this is the same Saro marine boat builders. Darzet boy (talk) 03:08, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
