Racism and boycott in Scandinavia

[edit]

I propose a new subsection: In Norway Scandic Hotels owned by the Hilton Hotel Corporation faced an uproar for refusing to book rooms for a Cuban delegation because of the U.S. trade embargo on the communist-run island. The 300,000-member Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Employees said it would boycott all Scandic hotels in Norway. The Anti-Racist Center in Oslo filed a police complaint against the hotels, saying Norwegian law ensures that "no one can be denied access based on their citizenship or ethnic origin." The Norwegian Foreign Ministry said all companies operating in Norway have to obey Norwegian law. It's expected the court will order the Scandic Hotels to pay fines for expelling guests, http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/16395787.htm

If I add this, will this be removed? This is a fact.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.156.60.40 (talkcontribs)

That depends on how important the item is to this article. Right now it is simply a news item. In the history of the chain will this be a notable event or a passing point in time? A multinational company breaks the law in various countries many times. So this is a normal business event for the chain. Also, since this was at a specific property that is where the information would be better placed. The chain may receive some fallout from what occurred at the one hotel. Given that this is over an issue about 40 years old, it probably is best located as a part of the ongoing boycott wherever that is covered. A brief mention here would be OK with a pointer to the extended discussion in another article. Also boycotts happen all of the time and are not always notable enough for inclusion. Remember this is an encyclopedia and not everything is included. If this does merit inclusion, it should be in one place and not multiple articles. Vegaswikian 21:05, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
True, future will show is this important or not. Maybe more opinions, should stay for a while - some weeks, or removed. or moved to other location?

I got to this page when clicking a link about the Burgundians being a Scandic people. I didn't expect them to be from a medieval hotel chain. 77.165.66.211 (talk) 14:24, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
