Wait what does this article have to do with the Free Zone?

Sorry, I should have said, "nothing that is mentioned in the article", which was certainly true as of yet yesterday. It still seems that the book, in fact, has very little to do with LRH's scientology or its Free Zone, but I now see that the book has been published by Free Zone e.V, apparently just because of its title. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 21:29, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Germanic[edit]

Also, I have no idea what "the Germanic way of expressing the word Scientology" means. You might think that means it's the German word for Scientology, but de:Scientology begs to differ. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 06:55, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't say it's the German word for Scientology. It means precisely what it says. For another example, the Germanic form of expressing "Biology" is "Biologie". Ditto, Scientology. The reason de:Scientology spells it with a final Y is because they're referring specifically to the religion, not scientologie as a general term. wikipediatrix 17:16, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't know what you mean. English is a Germanic language, so every English word is a Germanic way of expressing something. Germanic languages are several, though, so there is no the Germanic way of anything, unless it's the same in each of those languages. I didn't mean the broadest sense of "Germanic", I meant specifically pertaining to Germany. I didn't want to say scientologie is "the German word for Scientology" because that sounded slightly misleading (because it predates Hubbard's religion) but perhaps it's the best way to do it after all. wikipediatrix 13:52, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nordenholz and Aryan racial theory[edit]

I marked the note about Nordenholz being and advocate of Aryan racial theory with "citation needed".

First Use of the Word[edit]

The English-language term "Scientology" originated neither with Hubbard nor Nordenholz, but with philologist Allen Upward, who coined the term in 1907 in his book The New Word.[2]

This reference is cited to be a use of the word to ridicule pseudoscientific theories by Jon Atack, a COS critic.[1] This would not be a problem if the critic were actually accurate in his understanding of the text.

However, examination of the original text shows that in Upward's book The New Word the word 'scientology' is used to describe "science elevated to unquestioning doctrine", and does not have sense implied by Atack.

"...unhappily scientology is as often mistaken for science as theology is for worship."--The New Word, p. 149[3]

As far as I understand it, according to traditional German law, a book title has pretty much the same legal force as a trademark, and someone other than the Miscavige Scientology organization bought the rights to the book... AnonMoos (talk) 21:49, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
