Poorly written[edit]

This article is really poorly written. The first paragraph is overly redundant (mentions the same trade twice, mentions his high prospect rating like 4 times) and it does not go beyond 2004, despite that he's the ace of the Tampa Bay staff, now, in 2007. I might work on this tomorrow. Mike Murray 04:08, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

let's get working on this...[edit]

This article still needs much work, including a 2007 season section. Kazmir was the AL K-King, for Zim's sake!

And why was the scouting section removed? Some of it needed updating, but there was no reason to cut out the whole thing, imo. I'll prolly get back on this today or soon, but if this article pops up on your watchlist, feel free to jump in... Zeng8r (talk) 21:41, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Defense-independent pitching stats[edit]

I removed win-loss since it's one of those "old school" stats that modern GM's ignore. I added non-intentional walks plus hit batsmen and innings pitched (to give readers an idea of K's per inning). But I think other easy-to-understand, defense-independent stats may be better. Maybe we could replace both with strikeout-to-walk?

Also, any ideas for what should replace ERA? There's many metrics, such as dERA, but I can't think of one that's easy to understand. Any suggestions?

Maybe this discussion should take place on a general page about baseball pitchers, not the Scott Kazmir page?

This has been discussed in some detail at WT:BASEBALL. Please see this for a brief but recent conversation. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:08, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is written for the general public, not just sabermatically-inclined baseball fans, and certainly not just MLB general managers. While I agree that W-L and other "old school" stats like ERA and K's aren't the best way to numerically evaluate player performance, they are much more commonly used and understood by casual baseball fans, who outnumber sabermaticians by quite a large margin. One day, perhaps a consensus will emerge to replace these infobox stats with newer numbers. For now, however, this is how it's done around here. --Zeng8r (talk) 02:56, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That pretty much sums up my opinion on the matter. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:43, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lede[edit]

Hi. I have not done it myself. But the lede I think should not be more than four paragraphs. Maybe someone want to try to make that happen. --2604:2000:E016:A700:F5A1:77F6:3111:3FD5 (talk) 21:55, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I disagreed with the above comment at the time, but looking at the lede today, I must admit that I added a few too many details way back when. I streamlined it just now; hopefully it's an improvement. Zeng8r (talk) 22:11, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
