Life partner?

What is this reference? It seems odd, and should be deleted. He has a wife, she should be referred to only as such unless we have a citation that states otherwise. Franklin Bynum 05:26, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Iran-Contra reports

Scott Pelley most certainly did file a number of investigative reports on the Iran-Contra affair that were aired on the CBS Evening News in 1987. I saw those reports myself, and took note of the reporter's name at the time, because they broke information that had not been reported elsewhere and he was not yet on the roster of CBS network correspondents. Iran-Contra reports are wrong

In 1987, Scott Pelley was working at WFAA TV the ABC affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth. Nothing produced at the ABC affiliate would have been allowed to appear on The CBS Evening News. Nor did any series on Iran Contra by Pelley ever appear on World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. Pelley's first appearence on the CBS Evening News was as a staff reporter during an earthquake in Mexico in May, 1989. There is no record in the CBS archives of an Iran Contra series by Scott Pelley on any broadcast at any time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lifestory (talkcontribs) 19:03, February 19, 2008

Hello, Lifestory -- First, thanks for your detailed reply (and please remember always to sign your comments on talk pages with four tildes). I am seriously perplexed. On the one hand, I distinctly recall seeing those Iran-Contra reports. At the same time, I was aware of and puzzled by the fact that, according to his CBS bio, he was working for the ABC affiliate at the time. How those reports would have been produced and aired on the CBS network I don't pretend to know -- it's certainly odd, to say the least, and I don't know how to reconcile the apparent contradiction.
I'm interested to know the source(s) of your information. Your categorical statements appear to indicate that you have personal access to the CBS (and ABC) network archives. Is this in fact the case, or do you have other sources for your info? Cgingold (talk) 23:24, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm Scott Pelley's assistant at CBS News. Mr. Pelley noticed the reference and asked me to correct the record. He's very grateful for your interest, but, he would like to assure you that he never had an Iran Contra series on the CBS Evening News. Mr. Pelley had quite a battle convincing CBS to hire him in the early days. Dan Rather had no idea who he was until he was hired. Many thanks. Lifestory (talk) 18:02, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
