Pat Kelly[edit]

I am trying to get any sport reports ie: Newspaper Cuttings, pictures any kind of memrobilia on Pat Kelly. He was a Scottish football player between 1950's and 1960's. I think he played for either the 3 of these Kilmarnock, Hibs or Falkirk. I know its a long shot and nothing comes up on the internet. Unfortunatley Pat died tragically in a car accident and I was trying to get this for his son. Would appreciate any help.

Name change to the Hall of Fame[edit]

It is now known as the Scottish FA International Roll of Honour and the portraits of each player are displayed within the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park.

A new Hall of Fame, known as the 'Scottish Football Hall of Fame' also features within the museum at Hampden, and has done so since 2004. It is more representative as it features managers, and great players, like Jimmy Johnstone and Jim Baxter, who never got close to winning 50 caps for Scotland. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.139.73.83 (talk) 15:47, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this and have moved the page, the SFA clearly self identifies this list as being a roll of honour now, with the football hall of fame being operated by the Scottish Football Museum. The annual dinner of the Museum gets a significant amount of publicity each year, although I guess that may wind down a bit once they induct everybody that deserves to be in (particularly if they keep inducting several people a year). Rename[edit]

I renamed this to International Roll of Honour, which is the correct name per the SFA. User:Jmorrison230582 moved it back to Scotland national football team roll of honour, which is not the correct name at all, and used the edit summary "revert controversial move". If anyone is interested, please explain why this is controversial, otherwise I will move it again soon. Thanks. --hippo43 (talk) 17:45, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's not the correct procedure. If a move is controversial or contested, as this has been, you need to propose a move at WP:RM. I think the title "International Roll of Honour", although it may be technically correct, should not be used because it is highly ambiguous. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 17:50, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The title is obviously correct according to the SFA itself, and does not need to be diambiguated, as there is no other "International Roll of Honour" on Wikipedia, or in common usage anywhere. (Just as, for example, The Football Association does not need to be disambiguated.) "Scotland national football team roll of honour" is clearly the wrong name. Why is the correct name highly ambiguous? --hippo43 (talk) 18:02, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's ambiguous because if you asked the apocryphal man in the street what the "International Roll of Honour" was, they wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about. They wouldn't know it related to football, let alone the Scotland national football team in particular. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 18:08, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's not even what ambiguous means. More importantly, Wikipedia's policy on article titles| doesn't consider any "apocryphal man in the street". Your made up man in the street wouldn't know what chirality or Post-structural feminism are, what an engagé was, or who He Zizhen was, but we don't make up wrong names for them either. --hippo43 (talk) 19:06, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The first criteria of WP:TITLE is recognisability. "The title is a name or description of the subject that someone familiar with, although not necessarily an expert in, the subject area will recognise." How would anyone recognise what "International Roll of Honour" means? Jmorrison230582 (talk) 19:10, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Someone familiar with the subject area, Scottish Football, or maybe international football, would recognise it because that's its name. What could they possibly confuse it with?
In the spirit of compromise, I suggest we rename it Scottish FA International Roll of Honour - that is, its proper name and the name of the organisation. Thoughts? --hippo43 (talk) 20:02, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
