Is this article accurate and needed?[edit]

I think "Scriptwriter" means the same thing as Screenwriter, which already has an existing and more fleshed-out article. I also think the current article confuses the narrow definition of a "Scriptwriter" with the broader term "Writer".

The claim in this article is that "Scriptwriter" is a broad term that encompasses narrower occupations (comic strip writers, playwrites, screenwriters, speechwriters, etc.) If true, that claim needs to have sources added.

If I'm wrong about the meaning of this word, the article just needs to be expanded and have some sources put in. If I'm right, we should talk about deleting the article.

Yeah. I've added a merge box on box articles. If no one disagrees, I'll merge the two by Saturday. --J. Atkins (talk - contribs) 21:35, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... no one else had commented, so I had decided to merge the two articles, until after closer reading I realized that a screenwriter is a type of scriptwriter; namely one who writes plays. I had considered leaving it as a stub, whilst removing the redundant content already included in Screenwriter, and perhaps adding a list of notable screenwriters, as well as using the Main template in simplified sections of each type to link to the main articles. This would probably have been the most sensible thing to do, if I'd had the time (or perhaps anyway ;)), but instead I've converted this into a disambiguation page - the individual articles for the different types of scriptwriters are in total relatively substantial (okay, not screenwriter, but...), so that's another reason I don't/didn't see the need for keeping this as a separate article. If someone else has the time and feels it necessary to convert this back to a (substanial, please don't bother with another stub) separate article again, go ahead. Thanks for bringing this up DirectRevelation; hopefully this change will remove ambiguity/confusion relating to the two terms. --J. Atkins (talk - contribs) 18:12, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article needs work[edit]

I think I will add a wikify tag - this article's use of English could be improved, and it needs sections and references. Ricardiana (talk) 05:16, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect?[edit]

There's a proposal to make Scriptwriter a redirect to Screenwriter at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation#Scriptwriter - input to that discussion welcome and appreciated - thanks. 86.147.206.66 (talk) 17:55, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

But please have the discussion here. -- JHunterJ (talk) 18:28, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

originally proposed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation#Scriptwriter, 3 November 2010: This dab page currently has one redlink (userscripts, which has no links from anywhere else) and three bluelinks to articles that contain no mention of scriptwriter or script writer (playwright, script (comics), game design). The only other link is to Screenwriter.

Any objections to converting Scriptwriter into a redirect to Screenwriter? 86.180.255.89 (talk) 12:47, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
