[edit]- Seismic retrofit needs a civil or mechanical engineer to give it a once- or twice-over. I've already done some copyediting and rephrasing. - jredmond 03:03, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC).
- The article also needs illustrative pictures of retrofit details, especially the kinds of modifications that a homeowner can perform to secure the building, furnishings, and appliances. - Leonard G. 04:09, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Contributions of photographs are needed, yes!!!! Give us photographs!!!!! (comment moved from article page)
I am editting it whenever i found some free time away from my doctoral research on seismic retrofit. I hope such background will be sufficient. :) Anon with NZ I.P. address
- As long as all your additions are cited to reliable sources then all good. Unfortunately your personal background as an editor is irrelevant, however knowledgeable and respected you may be, as all content has to be verifiable by the reader. For example unsourced statements would be referred to as original research and drawing new and unpublished conclusions from cited facts is called synthesis, both would have to be removed per policy. Hope this clarifies in light of your statement. Obviously if you can find anything that is factually incorrect using your knowledge then please remove it or change it accordingly, just remember that primary source citations are always a good thing to have around here. Unattributed text removed
[edit]- Simple cut-and-paste job, unwikified, poorly integrated and not credited by IP contrubutor from www.cobrae.org/htmlfolder/papers.html, copyright status not verified.
- Text by Ray Zelinski, uncredited, from www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/earthquake_engineering/Research/brretrofit.pdf contributed by User: Saketborgaonkar - this is cvontributor's only edit to date, no user page, no user discussion page available.
This page is looking excellent, could any of you guys work on cleaning up the page retrofit? After all, it is the parent page of this page. - Eptin
Added Picture, etc.
[edit]I added a picture of an earthquake bolt in Charleston, SC. As well, I cleaned up some of the headlines and decks that were unused. RegBarc 23:09, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Article title
[edit]So why is this the seismic retrofit article? It includes a lot of information that is also relevant about earthquake-proofing new construction, and as far as I can tell there is not a separate article on that subject. Why not rename this article something like seismic protection and rewrite/reorganize/expand as necessary to include all earthquake-safety building features? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.39.212.60 (talk) 17:02, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Image:SFO_Landsat7_USGS122-38Comp.jpg textual overlay very poorly worded
[edit]the text on this image is very poorly worded:
Note that composition of images and locations of faults are approximate and should not be relied upon for geotechnical or building or land purchase decisions - consult an licensed geotechnical expert regarding these matters is this is important to you. No liability is assumed regarding use or decisions based upon this composite image nor any artistic additions regarding fault location or extent of possible rubble zones. The red locations are wide owing to the scaling of the lower resolution USGS image and does not necessary convey any reliable information in a geotechnical sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Badmachine (talk • contribs) 10:23, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- nobody fixed the image text so i removed it from the article. Badmachine (talk) 08:15, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Brick chimneys
[edit]A method for reinforcing brick chimneys is a poured in place concrete liner. An inflatable form is inserted into the chimney, inflated then concrete is poured around the form. When the concrete has cured the form is deflated and removed. This creates a solid core in the chimney, though only the innermost layer of brick directly adheres to the concrete. The foundations of some chimneys may not be able to support the additional weight.
Lake Ponchartrain Bridge
[edit]The concrete pilings of this bridge are being cleaned, wrapped with glass reinforced plastic sheet then resin is injected between the piling and the wrapping. The project may be completed by now. AFAIK the main function of this is to preserve the pilings from damaging marine life such as barnacles, but it may also serve as structural reinforcement.
