history[edit]

it'd be great if these had some history and origins of name. --Patbahn (talk) 05:28, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be most commonly called a "Chicago Screw" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz4mxsYOwzQ -- Cheics (talk) 02:04, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"tower bust"[edit]

I can't seem to find any page on the web using the name "tower bust" for this kind of bolt, currently marked with [citation needed]. This name was added to the list on June 6, 2023 in this revision by @ElectronicsForDogs.

I looked unsuccessfully for this term on:

I also tried adding "bolt" to all of these searches, and only this Wiki page or mirrors of it come up.

It would be great if ElectronicsForDogs could provide a reference, otherwise I'd suggest removing this entry. Nffwp (talk) 17:02, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I added tower bust and a {cn} tag after looking at the redirects to this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tower_bust&redirect=no
@Skysmith set that up way back in 2009. I've never heard it used, and I couldn't find a citation either. It appears the internet has never heard of such a thing. ElectronicsForDogs (talk) 22:11, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's where I got barrel bolt {cn} too - I was just consolidating redirects that other users had already set up to this page. I'd support deleting them, and the redirects, if there's no engineering sources in support. ElectronicsForDogs (talk) 22:14, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

barrel-shaped flange?[edit]

The first sentence describes the fastener as having a "barrel-shaped flang and protruding boss". Any resemblance between the flange and a barrel is tenuous and the rest of the article frequently describes the boss as "the barrel". The result is confusing. I propose changing the description to a "flange with a protruding barrel or boss". Any objections? Seismofish (talk) 08:03, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
